Yes they are well on their way to be friends and they both make it easy for each other. There is so much understanding between the two so it works well.
They are all working towards one goal in thier own way, things are starting to fall in place for them and it will all be good.
Yes Rashi is being a good friend to Gopi just like Gopi was to her. They have been thru much together so the bond is strong and unbreakable.
Jigar is suspecting and testing the waters, unknowingly making a clear path for Ahem to do what he needs to do next.
Thank you again Sandy. Next update coming up soon.

Shilpa...I hope to comment before you update the next part...I caught up with this part at work & was about to comment, but got busy with work...& then from then I have been procastinating it for a week...😳 ...
Loved the part so much Shilpa...especially Gopi realising Ahem being far from his family...liked how she got him to be part of it & liked Ahem how he turned the tables around to get her be part of her brother wedding 😉 !!!
I think, Ahem got his cousin to purposefully fall sick so that Gopi would be with him...& what Gopi does to him was not missed by his family...mothers are such wonderful people...whatever we do to them...however rude we are to them ...they love us & want to see us happy...when they make a wrong judgement for us...they are ones who take deep pain as their dearest child is hurt because of their decision...Koki is going thru that...but liked Hetal's advise that let Ahem decide ...and they genuinly seem to like Gopi 😊 !!! liked the part where her prayer was for him...asking her Kanaji to take care of him as she was not with him !!!
Ria taking care of Gopi as much Gopi takes care of her ...was good...hope it goes a long way of cementing their relationship & uniting both familes as well as being friends beyond that !!!
The brother-sister relationship & their scene...touched me...I never had a brother but after this...I miss having one 😉 ...the way Amit valued his relationship with Gopi...was touchy !!! Amit now seems to have a clue on Gopi life...so what will happen now...& now being part of the family will he take Ahem heads on ???
Ahem seems to be a possessive lover 😉,...cant handle his girl being dressed glamourous 😆😆 well it is nice in one way...but will also be nice if he gets to learn to live with allowing Gopi be glamourous once in a way 😛 since she does not do it everyday !!! well as usual Gopi gave in to Ahem's choice !!! Gopi so hopes her live to revolve around Ahem & taking care of him...but her past...her self esteem...her heart bound secret is hurting her & holding back her...so will Ahem make her to come out of it ????
Ahem got Gopi to enjoy the party...but the past hurt came back to her...he was there for her but she pushed him away again...how long will she be able to push the love she has for him !!!
Well the 1st time Jigar observed Ahem at wedding scene...I knew he had something on his mind & you proved it at the end ...I seem guess few parts by now 😉 ...hope you do not mind !!! Liked how he cares for his bhai !!!
Well Jigar cant stand Gopi but he seems to be fine as she gets his brother to smile & enjoy life...or is it that he has some other reason or person for Ahem...he seems to have guessed Gopi was Ahem's past or did he witness the kiss or he thinks having Gopi will ensure both frens are together & he need not be threatened by her 😛 or is it something else...How much will he be able to convince his bhai ?????
Now waiting for the next part 😉 !!!!

Thank you so much Navyab.
I completely undestand about getting caught up in work as I am the same at times. This is my Sunday to work and I am going to be tired once I get home that I decided to update while I have the time, otherwise it would not get posted today at all.
It is wonderful to see both go out of their way to make each other happy, and it all worked to his advantage in the end.
Although Ahem didn't make the cousin fall sick he did take advantage quickly and good thing because this gave Hetal and Koki to observe him. And completely agree with you on mom's this is what I miss about mine. Ahem doesn't know what drove Koki because she did not share her reasons at the time but in time he will understand and mend his relationship with his mother, especially once Gopi gets involved.
Ria has a huge role coming up and she will trigger the revalation of secrets Gopi keeps, she is a great friend and will go out of her way to make sure Amit or Gopi are not hurt.
Amit now is understanding Gopi's past behaviour and he and Ria will support her in whatever decision she makes regarding Ahem. He is a wonderful brother.
Possesive Ahem once in a while is nice to see and Gopi won't always give in, but compromise that works the best. She does need to be little stronger where he is concerened but he won't take advantage either. She on the other hand needs to learn to let go and try to get over her fears.
She won't be able to resist for long. I have a feeling you won't be surprised by any of my revalation you guessed on from the start and lets see if you are right after you read this next update.😉
Jigar is finally waking up and he is beginning to like Gopi, but his respect for her will increase when Rashi tell him little bit of how she and Gopi became friends.
He only want Ahem to be happy and he will make this happen so in a way he turned everything positive for Ahem. Will Ahem understand, I think so.
I don't know if I did justice your wonderful comments, but thanks so much, I love your take on each update, and you are usually aware of where I am going with the story.
Next update coming up.

Hi everyone. Hope all is well.
Next update. Enjoy.

Part 10

Ahem threw the file on his desk and stood up to pace the length of his office. One week, that's how long it has been, since Jigar gave his ultimatum and he hasn't let up for a whole week. Every time Ahem turned Jigar had another set of pictures for him to look at or another marriage website he thought would be good to sign up with to find a Gujarati bride.

No amount of arguing on Ahem's part had swayed Jigar, he had even threatened to leave the family and not return ever but even that hadn't budged Jigar. He had claimed it didn't matter whether Ahem stayed with the family or not he still won't marry unless Ahem marries first. Ahem just couldn't understand what had gotten into his brother all of a sudden.

Ahem ran his hand at the back of his neck in frustration. At least rest of the family had left him alone, not that they didn't give him expectant looks every day. How can he make Jigar and rest of the family understand that the only woman he loved and wanted to marry didn't want to marry at all?

Ahem halted at the window that overlooked the busy business district of Edison. He has debated for a week on what approach to take with Jigar's ultimatum. He knew if he is to be married then there is only one person he is going to choose to marry. Only problem now is how to get her to say yes. Ahem knew no matter how he approached her she is going to say no and try to get him to agree to his family's choice of girls.

Ahem decided he is going to do this his own way and only thing he wanted his family to do is talk to her aunt and brother. Her parents are not even going to be considered for the alliance. Gopi is coming back today from a three day conference, but first he will talk to his family, specifically his mom.

Ahem decided to head home early and get his talk with his mom out of the way then maybe he can talk Gopi into going out with him. He spoke to her everyday but has yet to see her since the reception. Thought of reception brought a sensual smile to his face. After she had rejoined him at the table he hadn't let her sit in the corner like she wanted to. He had made her get up and dance and have fun with everyone. They had mostly stayed close to Raj and Kinjal but had taken their turn dancing with others. He had been surprised to see her take a couple of turns with Jigar. She had danced with her brother while he had danced with Ria. Both Ria and Amit had been elated to see Gopi and Ahem have fun and get involved in all activities. He had been lucky enough to have the first and last dance with her. At the end of the night she had been more relaxed and smiled openly at everyone.

Over the week he spoke to her frequently over the phone and each time she asked him if everything was okay with him. It was as if she sensed he was hiding something from her. Well he is ready to tell her and put forth his proposal to her and let her decide what she wants to do, for him she was it.

Ahem felt his body tense as he came close to his home. In the past he had stayed always as much as possible but now things have changed, but his anger has not diminished yet. He decided to shower and change before he talked to his parents.

Thirty minutes later Ahem was ready in tanned Dockers and a maroon polo shirt. He pulled out his phone to check messages and immediately got lost in Gopi's photo he had taken at the reception. He caressed her face gently and smiled. He was so lost in his thoughts he didn't realize someone was knocking on the door until his mom called out his name.

"Ahem?" He put the phone away quickly and went to open the door and was surprised to see his mom and kaki both at the door. He had a feeling he knew what this was about and braced himself. His kaki smiled when he didn't say anything. "Ahem dikra, can we come in?" He opened the door wider without saying anything. He waited for his mom and kaki to sit on one of the sofa and he sat opposite of them. He waited for them to start their emotional blackmail once again.

Hetal sighed when neither mother nor son said anything. "Ahem dikra I know what you are thinking," her nephew raised an eyebrow and Hetal felt his pain in her heart, and knew Koki was probably hurting even more seeing her son so closed off from his family. "Your mom and I wanted to tell you that we will abide by whatever decision you make regarding Jigar's request, but we would like to request for you to think long and hard before you make your decision. Should you decide to marry we wanted to make a suggestion.." Hetal trailed off when Ahem stood up and walked away from them angrily. Koki and Hetal looked at each other anxiously and realized that was the wrong thing to say to him.

Ahem stared out the window at the rose garden to calm his temper. Once again his family wanted to interfere in his life, first Jigar with his ultimatum and now his kaki and mom with suggestion of a suitable girl. He turned and walked back to the sofa once he was calm enough to talk. "I was coming down to talk to mom on my way out but you came up before I could come down. I have already decided to grant Jigar his request." Both ladies were surprised at first but smiled widely once they realized what he said. Before they could start talking he held up his hand. "Don't start celebrating yet, I am not yet finished." He looked at them to make sure they were paying attention.

When Ahem was sure he had their undivided attention he started talking again. "I am only going to say this once and not discuss it again so don't try to change my mind. The girl I want to marry may not accept my proposal so don't get your hopes up; I will not marry anyone else but her." Hetal was worried and Koki was shocked, they both exchanged another anxious glance. "I will tell you who she is when I return tonight so you can speak to her relatives."

"This is the girl you wanted to marry before, the one you were in love with?" His mom asked. He looked at her to gauge her expression but was unable to decide if she was upset about this. Ahem shrugged his shoulders and answered honestly. "Yes it is." He kept watching her to see if she became angry or upset. Koki nodded slowly and looked at Hetal. "Motabhabhi we should leave and let Ahem finish getting ready."She walked out of the room without saying anything else. Hetal watched her younger sister in law with worry as she walked out and then glanced at Ahem. She gave him an encouraging smile and patted him on the shoulder before following Koki out the door.

Ahem grabbed his wallet, car keys and walked out the door without giving anything else a second thought. He refused to give into his mom's emotional blackmail this time.

Koki did not stop until she was in the kitchen; she blinked back her tears, and sat down tiredly. "Kokila are you okay?" Koki looked at her sister in law and could not hide her pain from the woman who has been more like a sister to her than her own sister. "Ji motabhabhi, I am fine." Koki smiled at Hetal when she placed her arm around to sooth her. "I was hoping to make Gopi my vahu, but looks like fate has other plans for us."

Hetal rubbed Koki's shoulder soothingly. "Don't lose heart Koki, who knows, you may like the girl Ahem has chosen for himself more than Gopi." Koki smiled at her motabhabhi faintly. "Say it like you mean it motabhabhi, I know you are not convinced of this either. Gopi would have made him a good life partner."

"Mom, Kakiji? Did I hear you say you want to make Gopi your elder daughter in law? Kinjal asked as she walked in the kitchen followed by grinning Raj. "Wow auntiji that is a great idea." He said as he took a seat at the table.

His smile faded when the older ladies did not reply. "What is wrong Hetal aunty?" He looked at Kinjal but she also looked confused when his mom and kaki did not answer.

Koki looked at her daughter and her fianc and sighed. "We never got a chance to suggest this to Ahem. He already decided he wants to marry the girl he was in love with before. He is gone to propose to her." Koki did not sound happy at all.

Kinjal and Raj exchanged a look and decided to keep quiet on the subject for now. They cannot reveal anything to the family before Ahem had his talk with Gopi.

Gopi looked at her phone again, no missed calls or messages from Ahem. She had called him three times and he has yet to call her back. She has been back for four hours now and he hasn't even texted her to see how she was doing. Something was definitely wrong; she had felt a sense of forbidding for a whole week and could not figure out what was making her feel like this, but she knew it has something to do with him. He had been evasive every time she asked him if something was wrong.

She had wanted to go see him as soon as she returned from her three days nursing conference but decided against the idea when she realized it was not a good idea to get that involved in his life. Gopi decided to think about this later and got up to go to the kitchen to eat dinner alone. Rashi was out with Jigar but Gopi had decided to cook anyway to distract herself.

Just as she was entering the kitchen the doorbell rang, she wondered who would come this late in the evening. She turned and walked back to the front of the house. She opened the door and was surprised to see Ahem on her doorstep. She smiled and opened the door wider. "Hi, what are you doing here?"

Ahem crossed his arm over his chest and leaned against the door frame. He scowled at her. "Why did you open the door without checking to see who it was at the door first?" Gopi was taken aback by his question and scolding. She looked at him closely and realized he was upset about something else but he jumped on first thing he could complain about.

"Are you going to scold me standing in the doorway or are going to come in and tell me what is really bothering you?" She asked him just as belligerently. Ahem looked away from her in shame, instead of greeting her like she greeted him, he started scolding her. Gopi on the other hand was getting anxious so she took his hand, pulled him in the house and closed the door. "Did you eat?"

Ahem shook his head and sighed. "No and that is why I am here, let's go out to eat." He said and moved towards the door. She caught his hand just as he passed her. "No we are not going out; you don't look to be in the mood to eat out. I already have dinner ready and was about to eat, do you want to join me?"

He looked around then raised an eyebrow. "Why, where is your bodyguard?" She grinned at him. "She is with your bodyguard." Ahem laughed at that and relaxed a bit. "Well then I will definitely join you." He said with a smile. "Have a seat at the table, I will bring everything out." She said as she went into the kitchen. Ahem waited for her to come back.

Gopi gathered everything on the tray and walked out. She was surprised to see Ahem had not taken the seat. He took the tray from her. "Let me take this." He set the tray on the table and turned back to her. "Do you need to bring anything else from the kitchen?" Gopi shook her head. "Just the dishes, I can handle those." She turned and went back in the kitchen and came back within minutes with everything. He waited for her to set the table then pulled a chair out for her to sit before taking his own seat.

Gopi waited until he started eating before starting a conversation. "I heard from bhai today, he and Ria are coming back late tonight." Ahem nodded. "Yes Jigar mentioned he was going to pick them up at the airport. How was your conference?" Gopi told him about her three days in Philadelphia and how nice it had been to catch up with some school friends. They continued with casual conversation during dinner, but Gopi noticed Ahem only half listened to her and had a preoccupied look on his face through dinner. Once he was finished she pushed her plate aside, folded her arms on the table and waited for him to say something.

Ahem didn't know how to approach the subject of marriage with Gopi, he was scared to say anything because deep in his heart he knew this is will make her withdraw from him. Her soft question brought him out of his dreadful thoughts. "Ahem what is wrong? I can see something is bothering you, in fact you sounded distracted the whole week."

Gopi decided to give him time when he didn't answer her. She got up and picked up the dirty dishes, she almost dropped all the dishes when she registered what Ahem said so softly. "Jigar has demanded I get married first and only then he will marry Rashi." Gopi felt a sharp pain in her heart at the thought of Ahem being married to someone else. She controlled the trembling of her hands by carefully placing the dishes back on the table and taking her seat again.

The silence between the two was deafening but neither had the words or courage to take the conversation forward. Gopi stood up and started clearing the table again. Ahem watched as Gopi put her full concentration on cleaning the table and sighed. He waited for her to say something but she just kept going in and out the kitchen to clear up the dinner dishes and put away the leftovers. He couldn't read her expression to see what she thought of the latest condition put forth in front of him by his family.

Gopi's thoughts were in turmoil, on one hand she was angry on behalf of Rashi and on the other the fact that Ahem may marry soon was causing her tremendous amount of pain. She needed few moments to put her own emotions aside if she wants to help Ahem come to terms with the fact that he needs to get married for his family's sake, but more than that she needs to convince him to give in for Rashi's sake. Once she finished cleaning the kitchen she joined Ahem in the living room. "Have you decided what you want to do about Jigar's request?"

Ahem turned towards her when he heard her ask him about his decision. He tried to read her expression but once again found it hard to figure out what she was thinking. He nodded his head. "Yes I have, I have decided to get married but on my own terms." She looked away from him but he didn't miss the flicker of emotion in her eyes and finally breathed a sigh of relief. She isn't indifferent as she is pretending to be. He took her hand and made her sit with him on the sofa. "Gopi I need your help with this," he knew it was going to take everything in him to talk her in to accepting his proposal, "will you help me?"

Gopi tried to pull her hand from his but he held it tighter. She didn't think she could help him in choosing someone suitable for him if that is what he wanted from her, but somehow she didn't think that is what he wanted. She sensed he wanted her to do something more than that. "Ahem I am the last person you want help from."

"You are wrong in this; you are the only one who can help me in this Gopi." Ahem couldn't stretch this anymore. "Gopi, will you marry me please?" This time when she pulled her hand out of his, he couldn't stop her. She moved away from him and shook her head. "No Ahem please don't do this to yourself, I cannot marry you."

"Why can't you marry me Gopi?" Ahem asked, he got up and went towards her. "I know you have feelings for me and you know I love you also, so what is stopping us from being together?"

Gopi held out her hand when he moved towards her. "I am not right for you Ahem. You promised we would always remain friends and you would respect my wishes, then why are you doing this now?" Ahem didn't stop until he was in front of her.

Ahem pulled her in his arms. "Because I have no choice baby, I cannot see myself with anyone else but you." He took her back to the sofa to sit. Once he had her settled against his chest she relaxed into him. "Gopi I can't marry anyone else, if I do I will destroy that person's life along with mine too."

"You will destroy your life if you marry me Ahem. I cannot give you what you want. I would never be able to be a true wife to you." Ahem closed his eyes in pain when he heard the defeated tone of her voice. He didn't want to push her into telling him what she meant by those words. "Then be my friend."

Gopi looked at him and the tears on her face made him even more determined to persuade her to marry him. "Yes be my friend, we can remain friends even after marriage. I won't push you to give me more than you are willing to give me."

Gopi sat up straighter and pulled away from him. She let the tears flow out of her eyes, not bothering to hide them from him. She was tempted to say yes just so that she could be with him finally, but she had to be the sensible one here. Ahem is not thinking beyond here and now. She had to think about her brother and Ahem's family, at the same time she needed to do what is best for Rashi also. Her life is spinning out of control and she didn't know how to stop it. Whatever decision she makes someone is bound to be hurt by this. "Have you told your family about me Ahem?" She finally asked him.

Ahem pulled her back in his arms. "I told them I want to marry only one girl and no one else. I wanted to talk to you first, but as soon as I get home I am telling them about you." Ahem made Gopi look at him by cupping her face and lifting it up. "It won't matter what they think. If you say no to my proposal things will not change. I will tell Jigar he can do what he wants with his life but I will choose to live mine the way I want to." He released her and stood up. He might as well put everything in front of her. "The truth is before you came back into my life I had decided to move to my apartment in Philadelphia and take over the management of the properties we own in there and if you don't want to be with me then this is what I will do."

Gopi was stunned, things were even worse then she had thought. He is going to continue to punish himself and his family for her. "Ahem don't do anything rash, you might regret this decision. As for your marriage proposal, right now I don't have any answers for you. There are so many things to consider before I can decide." She didn't know how else to buy time to think things through. Her heart was leaping with joy at the thought of being with him, but her fears overruled her heart and mind. There are too many what ifs involved if she ignored everything and just listened to her heart.

Ahem took his seat next to her again and took her hands in his. "If you need time then take the time, but it's time I told my family about us so they can also decide to approve or disapprove of my choice. It still won't matter to me but it might help you to decide if you know if they approve or disapprove of our relationship." He glanced down at their joined hands. "Just keep one thing in mind when you make your decision, that I love you, no one else, and I only want to be with you." He kissed her on the forehead and stood up. "I better leave now." Gopi also stood up and walked him to the door.

"Goodnight Gopi," he turned to open the door but stopped when he felt her take his hand in hers. He turned back towards her and waited. Gopi didn't know what to say when he turned back but she knew she couldn't let him leave without giving him something to hold on to. "Ahem I want you to know if things were not so complicated with my life I would have said yes to your proposal without hesitation, but my life is so complicated I fear that I will drag you down with me. I have so many issues and hang ups; I wouldn't even be able to think about any physical relationship with you." Gopi knew she was not making any sense to him but she couldn't bring herself to tell him about the accident. She knew he wouldn't worry about her physical flaw but what about the fact that she more than likely won't be able to have his baby. Will he accept her if he knew this? Family is important to him no matter how estranged he is from them and no matter how much he denies it. She couldn't take the chance of being rejected by him if he came to know of this.

Ahem knew she was attracted to him as much as he was attracted to her. It was hard to hide this, she had responded to his kiss with passion, so then what is her reason for denying them this pleasure? He knew it was connected to her accident but he won't push her for the answers to this either. He only wanted her to agree to marry him. Once they are married he will find a way to make her tell him what is making her hold back from him. He cupped her face with both hands. "I will abide by your wishes regarding this and remain your friend even after we are married. However I hope that you will give me a chance to get rid of any hang ups and issues you have related to love making. None of your issues will change the fact that I love you, and no matter what happens in the future this will not change." He leaned down and kissed her lips gently. He only lingered for few moments then pulled back.

She kept watching him then finally nodded her head. "Goodnight Ahem, I will see you tomorrow." He released her and walked out the door without looking back. Gopi closed the door and slumped against the door. She already knew she is going to accept his proposal. She wanted to be with him, she was tired of denying the fact that she was only half alive without him. She needed to do this not only for Rashi, but for him also. She needed to bring him close to his family again. If for any reason they are torn apart again she wanted to make sure that he had his family's support should he need them.

Jigar pulled up at Rashi's house just as Ahem's car disappeared around the corner. "Was that Ahem bhai's car I just saw going around the corner?" He asked Rashi.

Rashi looked at him worriedly but did not answer him. She didn't know how Jigar will react if he came to know about Gopi and Ahem's relationship. "Don't be silly Jigar, why would your brother come here?" Jigar sighed and chuckled at her question. "Hmm..Let's see to visit your friend may be." He said and was not surprised to see her gape at him in shock. "Well are you going to tell me what is going on between them or should I take a guess?"

Rashi's shoulders drooped in relief. She was glad she didn't have to watch what she said to Jigar about Gopi and Ahem. "How did you figure it out?" Jigar tapped his fingers on the stirring wheel. "She is the girl from his past right?" Rashi nodded. "I just figured it out at Ria's wedding and the way they couldn't keep away from each other at the reception confirmed it. Tell me something, what is it about her that you and bhai are both so devoted to her?"

Rashi knew this day would arrive and a question would come one day from Jigar. He was slow in noticing what was obvious but not dumb. She got out of the car and waited for him to join her. "I met Gopi almost seven years ago, few days before the first day of college. We were to be roommates, but when I met her I instantly disliked her."

Jigar looked at her in shock, "Really? I can't see you disliking anyone, most especially Gopi."

Rashi smiled at his surprise. "I was a stuck up, spoiled girl back then. I was into being popular and having the best, nothing else would do for me. When I met Gopi I thought she was beneath me. I didn't want to be roommate with some bookworm. I wanted a roommate who was more like me." She still cringed at the memory of her first encounter with Gopi. How she had tried to insult Gopi but she never answered her back.

"So what made you change your mind about her?" Jigar asked her. He really wanted to know and understand what was so special about Gopi that it made his bhai withdraw from everyone. He wasn't shallow but to him Gopi was not that good looking so it wasn't about her looks so then what made his bhai notice her? And what was it about her that made the girl he loved so much be so loyal to her?

Rashi gazed at the small garden in front of her house but was lost in the past. "I tried to see if I can find another roommate but it was too late to make changes so I was stuck with her. She stayed out of my way and I did everything I could to avoid her. The freedom of not answering to my parents got to my head and I befriended wrong crowd of people. I was out partying all the time, not caring about my studies or attending classes." Rashi felt ashamed at the way she had behaved back then and wondered what Jigar will think about her after hearing about her past.

Jigar could not imagine Rashi as a party girl, but he also knew many kids go through what Rashi had gone through in college. In fact many of his friends had fallen victim to this type of behavior. "Something big must have taken place for you to turn your life around and choose a better path for yourself."

Rashi nodded somberly. "Yes something big did happen. Gopi had overheard some of my friends talking about how the guy I liked was going to have his way with me at the party that night. She told me but I did not believe her and went to the party. Gopi broke her own rule and followed me at the Sorority house where the party was to take place." Rashi felt tears threatening at the thought of what could have happened if Gopi had not been there that night. "She kept an eye out for me and knew when something was mixed in my drink, but unfortunately I drank the stuff before she could stop me. I was half out of it and didn't even realize when I was lead upstairs to one of the rooms. When I realized it I couldn't fight the guy off. It must have been my lucky day because the police raided the place on complaints of the neighbors. Gopi found me before the cops could come up to search the place. We got out the window and went down the fire escape without anyone noticing us. Gopi saved my life that day, if it hadn't been for her I don't know what would have happened to me that night."

Rashi turned to Jigar and looked at him. "That was me in the past but I won't blame you if you change your mind after hearing all my past deeds." Jigar pulled her in his arms and hugged her tightly. "Silly girl, do you think something that happened long time ago and something that made you into the person that you are today would affect the way I feel for you? In fact I think it takes a lot of courage to face your mistakes then make changes to better yourself. Rashi I love who you are now, not who you were for a while in your past life."

Rashi relaxed against him and hugged him back. "Thank you Jigar, but I couldn't have done it without Gopi. She was with me every step of the way. She helped me make the change and pushed me to study hard to bring my grades back up. It was a miracle I passed that first semester and if it hadn't been for her I wouldn't have done it. From that moment on we have been best friends. I owe her my new life."

Jigar kissed her forehead and looked over her head, his gaze was thoughtful. He knew he did the right thing by pushing his bhai, but will Rashi forgive him after he tells her what he has done? He pulled back and looked down at her. "Rashi there is something I have to tell you, but please hear me out before you get mad at me."

Rashi did not like the sound of that and pulled out of his arms completely. She leaned against his car and waited for him to tell her what he has done. She had a feeling she is not going to like it one bit.

Jigar fidgeted and ran his hand through his hair to gather courage to tell her about his ultimatum to his bhai and family. "Well my dad asked me about my decision on our marriage but I told them I would not marry before Ahem bhai." He said the words quickly.

Rashi stood up straight. "You did what? Why did you do this Jigar?" Jigar shrugged his shoulders. "I saw the way he has been lately Rashi. I don't know what happened between them but I am tired of seeing my bhai distant himself from his family, most especially Kakiji. I just wanted to give him an opening to take the next step and make Gopi forgive him for whatever he has done or for him to move on without her."

"So that was why he was here earlier." Rashi said absently. "Jigar I hope your ultimatum doesn't cause Gopi more pain then she has already been through." Jigar frowned. "What do you mean? What happened between them and for that matter what is wrong with her family?" Rashi shook her head. "It is not my secret to share Jigar, I can't tell you anything. Just hope everything works out for the best."

Jigar now understood that Gopi is what she shows herself to be and he should have not interfered but he just couldn't see his brother in pain either. He pulled Rashi back in his arms. "I am sorry Rashi but I just want my bhai to be happy again and I am sure this is what you want for your friend also. I can see that bhai really cares for her and regrets what happened in the past. I am just trying to give him a reason to bring her back in his life."

Rashi knew she couldn't blame him for caring enough about his brother to do this, but she didn't want Gopi to get her in the process. She prayed that everything works out for Gopi because no matter how much she tried to hide it Rashi knew Gopi loved Ahem and would do anything for him. She just hoped Gopi did not let her fears get in the way of her happiness.

Jigar pulled back and cupped Rashi's face. "Don't worry I am sure everything will work out in the end. Bhai believes in his destiny and he won't settle for anything less than what he believes in. He will never hurt her."

Rashi didn't look convinced but nodded. "I hope so Jigar because if he hurts her again I will not spare him." Jigar chuckled at her attempt to sound tough. His smile faded when he gazed into her eyes. He bent and kissed her on the lips tentatively, when she responded he pulled her closer and deepened the kiss. This was their first kiss and both put all their feelings into the kiss. It was a while before they came up for air and looked at their surroundings. Jigar walked her to the front door without saying anything.

Rashi stopped in front of the door and looked up at Jigar. She realized she never told him how she felt about him when he told her he loved her. She kissed him on the cheek. "Jigar thank you for understanding about my past, I love you too." He grinned down at her and hugged her one last time before walking back to his car. Rashi waited until his taillights faded into the distant before opening the door and going in the house.
