Shahid Kapoor's next film with the Yash Raj stable is in a spot of bother, with director Manish Sharma suffering a slipped disc. Shahid, we hear, had even allotted his dates over the next six months. But then, Manish of Band Baajaa Baaraat fame suffered his slipped disc and the film's schedules were tossed away until July at least.

But just when Shahid was drawing up plans of twiddling his thumbs, in stepped UTV. Shahid was supposed to start work on UTV's remake of Vettai later this year, and he has asked them to bring its schedule forward by a few months, perhaps the first time an actor is insisting the production house advance its dates. "There was no point in wasting precious dates. Six months is a long time and Shahid wanted to use that chunk smartly," says a source close to Shahid.

UTV, on their part, is overjoyed at this proactive approach used by an actor. "It's a commendable effort on Shahid's part. He has taken the initiative and is ensuring that Vettai gains momentum. Normally producers are chasing actors to give dates. That Shahid should do the reverse speaks volumes about his professionalism," says our source from the production.

Impatient to get Dharma Productions on his resume, Shahid Kapoor convinces UTV to rope in a co-producer

Opportunity knocks at your door just once, they say. However, for Shahid Kapoor, a chance to work with Dharma Productions has presented itself not once but thrice.

The actor, who couldn't work in Karan Johar's Kaal in 2005 had to wait seven years to be offered another film from the production house. Sadly, due to date issues, the actor had to opt out of the Punit Malhotra directorial as well. Shahid had then said, "I hope it doesn't take us another seven years to work again." And thankfully, his wish has just come true albeit with a little prodding by the actor himself.

Mumbai Mirror has learnt that Shahid, after KJo's production fell through, was approached by Siddharth Roy Kapoor for the Hindi remake of the Tamil blockbuster Vettai. Seizing this opportunity, the actor asked the UTV head to get Karan Johar to co-produce the venture, which will finally add the much-coveted 'Dharma film' to his resume.

This managed to magically fix Karan Johar's problems - Firstly, the filmmaker without having to upset his other productions or Punit Malhotra got a project with Shahid. Also, he got a big film like Vettai in his kitty without having to fight for its remake rights (since Siddharth Roy Kapoor already had it in place). And lastly, he did not have to make Shahid wait for another seven years. Perhaps for the first time, tinsel town's very own peacemaker and problem solver got his dilemma sorted.

Though Karan and UTV remained unavailable for comment, a source close to the latter production house told us that the necessary paperwork still remains to be done.

Our source also revealed that UTV will handle the entire production of the film and Dharma will not really be involved in the execution. The film will be directed by N Linguswamy, who had made the original. Apart from Shahid, R Madhavan will also be a part of the venture.

madhavan and shahid wouldnt work for vettai basically bcoz the main reason it looked plausible was bcoz madhav and arya physically looked similar ...

whereas wth shahid and maddy, it would a lot diff both with size and height...

lets see how they manage that

N ot too long ago, we told you about the possibility of Madhavan starring in the remake of the Tamil action film 'Vettai'along with actor Shahid Kapoor. But that hasn't worked out. Now, actor Ali Zafar of 'Tere Bin Laden'fame is set to play Shahids elder brother in the film. The film revolves around two brothers, the elder being sensitive to violence and the younger being a jobless rogue. The story revolves around how the elder brother rises to fame, by secretly taking help from his younger brother to punish suspects. The film is high on action. Since the Tamil version had Madhavan playing the elder brother, it was expected that he would be a part of the Hindi remake as well. But now Ali Zafar has bagged the role. N Linguswamy, the director of 'Vettai'will direct the Hindi version as well. Shahid is expected to start working on the film once he wraps up work on Maneesh Sharmas untitled project. Shahids other projects include Kunal Kohlis next, tentatively titled 'Teri Meri Kahani', with Priyanka Chopra. Meanwhile, Ali Zafar is working on the remake of the 1981 classic 'Chashme Buddoor'.
