Jyothirmayi to be mother of autistic child

Actress Jyothirmayi will be seen as the mother of an autistic child in scriptwriter Srivalsan's directorial debut Urava

Close on the heels of playing a deglam role in Sthalam, a film about safeguarding mangroves, actress Jyothirmayi has signed yet another movie with a sociallyrelevant message. In the movie Urava, the actress will play the mother of an autistic child. "It's not a glamorous role. I play a woman called Sharada in the movie that has theyyam as its backdrop," says Jyothirmayi. The actress, who is awaiting that one elusive hit, believes this is a film that will make the audience sit up and take notice. "What appealed to me is the movie's theme, which has a social significance. It's about the difficulties that the parents of a physically challenged child have to undergo to bring him up. However, it is a feel-good movie that progresses on a positive note," says Jyothirmayi, who is paired opposite actor Irshad (of
Bhaktha Janangalude Sradhakku
fame).
The fact that the actress has chosen to play yet another deglam role does not mean she is attracting only such offers. "I have been offered some films where I am required to play arm candy. But that's not what I am looking at right now. I want to play characters with substance for the time being. There are plenty of glamourous roles one can take up at any point of time," she says. Urava will be directed by Srivalsan, who has done the scripts for many popular tele-serials like Jwalayayi and Guruvayoorappan. The shoot for the movie will start this month at Kannur.
