I agree with what you said about how producers are after promoting, than actually having something good to promote.

BUT, with the preferences that the Bollywood audience has, there's barely any incentive for them to create a genuine, no-frills, genuine screwball comedy. Its like, yeah I made this amazing cake, but who the hell is gonna eat it anyway

I wish these producers found motivation in the small, verrry small section of the audience that does appreciate summa their past efforts.

The producer of Ek Chaalis will probably never make another like movie, because he remembered what he did last time, and how it fell flat on its face.

Comedy is hard to do...granted. We have capable actors, actresses, directors, producers...granted. Making movies is a business so one has to be concerned about box office and so on...granted. BUT our industry has gotten SO bad about "100 crore" and oh so concerned about box-office status and who is on top and what not that its just ridiculous. Everyone spends more energy on promoting a movie than actually making a good movie to promote. Such a shame. Not just comedy...Bollywood rarely comes out with a well done movie. Rarely. Anyways...like i said, we have a LONGGG way to go.

EDITED: Gaurav, im saying this because you mentioned Karan Johar's movie. I doubt he can do something like that right now.

Karan Johar will never make anything innovative! Sure, Agneepath was excellent but that was a remake. He needs to stop his rhona-dona ideas and embrace something unique. But, yes we have a LONG LONG way to go! Confused😆

Agreed liver. That's true but i am a true believer of if something is GOOD it will make business. Yeah, it might not be a 100 crore movie but it will be decent and will get great appreciation. I think Dehli Belly kinda paved the way for better comedies...hopefully. Also agreed that there is a certain preference from the audience but things do change over time. If they don't try anything new then of course nothing will work. I am actually sick and tired of everyone claiming something to be "different" and then we watch the movie and its just the same dish but just presented on a different platter. To me, it is definitely possible to make something good that is different. Like you mentioned, i too have faith in production houses like UTV.

Gaurav...i see what you are saying but Karan Johar actually is one of the decent movie maker compared to everyone else. I rather watch the rona-dhona or another IMAET than Ready. He has potential...i just don't think he can do anything like that right now.

Dil Hai Ke Maanta Nahin was a good Bollywood screwball comedy. It was a remake of It Happened One Night. I think Amol Palekar's films like Golmaal were good screwballs.

Although no movie will ever come to being as awesome as 'Arsenic and Old Lace' ."I'm not a taxi driver, I'm a coffee pot."
