This whole post has some wonderful points made...The discussion here, while originating from the serial, has come to the larger points like censorship, viewer rights etc... As always, there is no single truth...We are all right... Those who thought it was aesthetic and beautiful and showcases a coming of age for Indian media/audience etc... And those who thought it hurt their sensibilities and value system...
There were a couple of points here that were glaring though... There seems to be a justification for strong language and 'putting people in their place' by saying they were justified... since this whole post was in response to some people who had created posts against the show/characters etc... You are singularly responsible for your own conduct... There is so much herd mentality and brutal cutting down of people with harsh words (always backed up by likes and agree comments by friends)...
Another was that protesting something against your beliefs is not old fashioned or outdated or trying to take India back...
In the western world too...Eg. There is a constant campaign against the likes of McDonalds and Moms get together to ensure that junk food/soft drinks are not served in/near schools... Mothers unite against drunk driving...Smoking is not allowed in movies...Bad language is beeped out...Child locks/parental controls are in place on TV/computers ...Parents do want to control what their kids are doing...
Celebrities are always used to endorse products...WHY???? They have the power to influence people...Celebrities find it most easy to enter politics...since they are recognised/respected... Arun Govil/Smriti Irani are examples... So, people have certain expectations from the people who are their favourite actors...It may not affect you or me...But it most certainly would affect many others... They expect the actors to be righeous and put their foot down and refuse to play such parts...Like some heroines refusing nudity/love scenes while others do it... People possibly expect Sakshi Tanwar to be more like the Parvati/Priya she plays...
It is entirely possible that the way people have vent out their anger is not correct...But an eye for an eye is not the answer... We need to understand where they are coming from...Why this anger and disgust????? If these people are accepting of all the dirty dancing and the jawani songs and the sunny leon's...Why this sudden moral policing when shown on balh????? It is possible, because the time, place, people, audience etc...was all wrong...They possibly don't want such nosense entering the living rooms of India through the much needed daily dose of escapism...They don't want to RUN AWAY from the TV...which is their only true and reliable source of entertainment...
It is all in the context...
