In Ekta Kapoor's film, The Dirty Picture, there was a National Award winning performance by Vidya 'Silk' Balan and Silk's now famous dialogue about films being all about entertainment, entertainment and entertainment.

The film went on to not only entertain, but set the bar higher for all things bold and sexy in the somewhat prudish celluloid world. But Ekta is not content with pushing boundaries on the big screen with films like LSD, Ragini MMS and the recent, The Dirty Picture. The undisputed queen of television has now set hearts aflutter in her hit soap, Bade Acche Lagte Hain on Sony, in which her lead players, a demure Priya Sharma essayed by Sakshi Tanwar, and her rotund Mr Kapoor, played by Ram Kapoor, decide to get in on after several months of being married on the show.

Last night's episode resulted in Ram Kapoor trending worldwide on Twitter for the kiss he planted on wife Priya. The lead up of course was heightened, Balaji style, so the audience anticipated a full French kiss, but there's no such progress on the tube yet.

The Ram-Priya hug and subsequent kiss was filmed, keeping the parameters of the Information and Broadcast Ministry's permissible primetime behaviour in mind.

Makes you wonder who really needs to see a large man stick his tongue down his lawfully wedded wife on the small screen? Billions of people; as was the reaction to the 'kiss episode' that aired last night that left them wanting more!

Television in India has always been timid as far as legit sexual play in its prime time content is concerned. Try as you will, there is no recall of any such moment between Tulsi and Mihir Virani back in the early 2000s.

After years of the glitzy and dramatic bahus setting sari and bindi trends, it's time for some twitter trends in keeping with the times and who better than Ekta to kick that off too. It is the first time Twitter saw an Indian television serial and its characters trend ' a space reserved up until now for Friday blockbusters and the odd Slap.One and Saif Ali Khan shenanigans in Bollywood. #Ram Kapoor, #Sakshi Tanwar, #Priya, #Bade, #AreRam are just some of the trends on twitter that kept the cyber world alive with its jokes and lewd puns on the episode.

It's almost as if the bahus just gossiped, whipped up delicious Indian meals in their kitchens for their husbands, or plotted against their mother-in-laws with the bedroom reserved only for some pregnant talk, overhearing someone else's conversations or random screams of a husband asking for a tie or something else as mundane. Sexual play, direct or the old flower-kissing-flower type was just never depicted in the long drawn out sagas that went on for years. The sari seems to be loosening up a little, if only a tad, to whet the appetites of its loyal audience.

Just like that, the girl who has always been accused of regressive television, has turned the trend yet again. It looks like some sexual heat is about to overtake television in the days to come after Ekta's Bade Acche Lagte Hain episode. Over the years, TRPs have always been Ekta's best friend, more than her weighing scale. But now, with every pound she sheds off her shrinking person with her strict diet and exercise regime, she gains even more ground and momentum in the entertainment world. She stands for the final word in entertainment, entertainment and entertainment and is not restricted to just her soap glory. She says who, she says how, she says when and it works.

The numbers have always played back how addicted India is to her small screen melodramas and now, with some bold cheek kissing between a man and his wife, even more so! And the coming Wednesday will reveal the TRP's of the trending kiss.
