PRIYANKA WANTS TO BREAK AWAY FROM WIFE IMAGE

Priyanka Upendra will be acting for the first time post marriage with a hero other than her husband Upendra in a Kannada film

Before she married Real Star Upendra, Priyanka Upendra had wowed audiences with her onscreen chemistry with Ravichandran in the film Malla. Their pairing had fuelled several rumours about their offscreen relationship at the time. However, Priyanka soon went ahead and married Upendra and laid all the rumours to rest. Now, 10 years later, Priyanka and Ravichandran will be back again to wow their fans — and this time in a flick to be directed by Ravichandran himself, titled Crazy Star. The movie is a remake of the Malayalam hit Traffic and will have Priyanka playing Ravichandran's wife.
"Raviji approached us a month ago and said he had an interesting role for me and that he'd like to speak to Uppi and me about it. Later, I discussed the subject in detail with Uppi. He was very supportive about my decision and he even gave me inputs," says Priyanka.
Crazy Star will be the first movie post marriage that Priyanka will be starring opposite a hero other than hubby Uppi. "While I have acted opposite many heroes in Bengali and Hindi films after I got married, this will be a first for me in Kannada. There's an image that I'm somebody's wife and I want to break away from that. Crazy Star will see me playing a wonderful part and I hope people react positively to it. I want audiences to judge me as a performer and not as the Real Star's wife. I'm also thrilled about this role because I'll be one of those rare heroines in Kannada who will be playing a leading lady post marriage and kids," she adds.
So was she apprehensive before signing the film, considering there were so many rumours circulating during Malla, more so because the songs were quite sensuous? "Malla is a film that is remembered even today and that's a feat in itself. Ravichandran was in a double role and I played wife to the older character and mother to his younger character. The songs were a part of the flashback sequences in which I play his wife. People only wrote about the songs, even though my role had so many dimensions to it, including negative shades. Aesthetics and beauty are the hallmark of all his songs and Ravichandran makes all his heroines look beautiful, whether it was Juhi Chawla, Amala or Shilpa Shetty. The songs in Malla are nothing compared to what's being shown in some of our films today," points out Priyanka.
