7. Valentine surprise
Simran stretched out on her bed, her hands automatically going to the body lying at the side, snoring softly in his sleep. Opening her eyes she turned to the side and saw her husband sleeping on his side, his hair messy and hanging down his forehead, as he held her hand in his. She smiled at the sight, took a hand and ran it through his hair. He needed a haircut, but every time she suggested he get one, he would always avoid the topic with the pretense of doing work. She still remembered what a dreadful haircut a hairdresser had given him, and since then he had avoided going to the hairdressers.
Running her hand through his hair once more she marveled at the softness of it and a sigh escaped her lips. She scooted closer and stared at him. It had been 7 years to their marriage, yet every morning when she got up before him and saw him sleeping peacefully, she would still get that small tug at her heart as though she was falling in love all over again. They had their fair share of fights and tantrums, but the making up at the end of it always melted Simran's heart. He still had the boyish look about him, however his jaw and the lines on his forehead gave away his age of 28. The stresses of holding the family together and groveling through life to get a good job had definitely taken a toll on him, however he had decided to let his stresses out by working out.She ran her hand over his arm where his muscles had definition and felt a small smile stretch on her face as warmth filled her stomach.
When he had started working out, she had complained that he wasn't spending enough time with her. However she was definitely reaping the benefits of it now. They had married young, and everyone had been against it. Everyone had said that the love would fizzle out, and they would be leading towards divorce, however Simran and Karan were a lot mature than people gave them credit for. They knew that marriages entailed compromises and sacrifices, and both were willing to make them for the sake of their love. Simran gave another sigh, pecked him on the cheek and got up.
Going to the room next door she saw her 4 year old son fast asleep, stretched out on the, lying down on his tummy. Glancing up at the clock she realised it was close to 8.Karan had to leave for office, and she had to send Aryan to pre-school as well. "Aryan" She said softly, running her hand through his hair lovingly. He stirred and groaned but did not wake up. "Baby, wake up" she said and dropped a kiss on his forehead. "Ma" He groaned, and Simran chuckled. He definitely got his sleeping habit from his father. "Wake up baba, you have to go to school" She said, and switched on the light in his room so he would not go back to sleep. She made sure that he was out of bed before she went to the kitchen and started making breakfast.
She was halfway cutting the onions when her eyes glanced on the calendar. It was February 14th. She halted in her chopping and remembered back to the day 7 years ago when Karan had proposed to her. "Karan what is this" Simran said as she giggled and took in the sight in front of her. There were rose petals everywhere, and a lone table in the middle of the room with two chairs. There was soft music playing over the speakers, and the only light in the room was via the few candles scattered around the room. The dimness and the privacy gave the whole room a very romantic feel and Simran felt herself flushing at the sight. "Karan, whose place is this?" Simran asked as she looked around the empty flat, save for the table and the flowers adorning the place.
Karan didn't answer and took her hand in his, giving it a squeeze.Frowning at him, she looked at him questioningly, but he had a cheeky smile on his face. He turned to face her and then knelt on his knee, fetching something in his pockets. Simran knew what was coming the moment he knelt down and she felt her breath hitch as her heart skipped a beat. She saw as he took out a small box from his shirt pocket and looked at her hopefully, love written in his eyes. "I know we are young. But we have known each other for a long time. I can't imagine my life without you, I want to wake up to you every morning, I want to start my own family with you, I need you in my life, in ever step I take. I can't even remember what my life was like without you; nor do I want to imagine. Simran Kaur, will you please do me the honor of becoming my wife, by choosing to marry me?" He said, his eyes not leaving hers.
Simran felt her breath coming out in short gasps. She could fell her chest tightening in unspeakable emotions as she stared down at the love of her life. She had dreamt of this day since she was little, and now finally it was happening to her. "Y-yes! Yes! Yes!" She cried, as grabbed his face, pulling him up and kissing him hard on the mouth. Karan's arms went around Simran's waist as he twirled her around, pulling her off the floor. He gave a small laugh of accomplishment. "I love you so much" He whispered, dropping another kiss on her lips."I love you too" Simran said, tears still flowing from her eyes as Karan slipped the ring on her finger.
"This is our apartment" Karan whispered in her ear, and Simran looked around surprised. "Really?" She asked, and he nodded, his arm still around Simran's waist, holding her close refusing to let her get away. He bent down and captured her lips in his again, and Simran melted into his arms as she wound her arms around his neck, running her hand through his hair. That night, on Valentine's Day, the newly engaged couple made love for the first time in their new home.
"Ma!" Aryan yelled out, and Simran snapped out of her memories and quickly put the cereal in a bowl taking it to her son. Quickly making an omelette, Simran placed the dish on the table for Karan and waited for him to come out. She saw him coming out of their room, dressed up for work, and she grinned up at him. "Do you know the date today?" Simran asked, excitement bubbling in the pit of her stomach. Going down the memory lane, Simran really wanted to do something special tonight. "Feb 14th" Karan muttered as he bit into his egg and took a sip of his juice. "I know" Simran said, "It's Feb 14th. Valentines Day" Looking at him expectantly, but Karan just looked at her blankly before smiling,"Oh right. Happy Valentines Day sweetie" He said, as he scarfed down his breakfast.
Simran looked on disappointed. Bade them both goodbye as they went out the door and started her chores for the day.As she went out to the market to buy the groceries, she bumped into Neelu and Raima, the newlywed brides of the building.Giving them a polite smile, Simran went on to buy the groceries, hoping that the two women would have gone back home by the time she came back.Ever since they had been married, they had taken every opportunity they got to flaunt their perfect marriage life in everyone's faces. Simran disgustedly thought back to the countless times they would flaunt their designer jewelry and bags that their husband bought for them.
As she bought the vegetables, Simran was disappointed to see the two women still hanging around the entrance of the building, gossiping.Hoping to walk through unnoticed, Simran kept her head bent low and walked fast towards her building, but luck was not on her side and the two women called out to her. "Simran didi!" Simran halted in her tracks and looked over her shoulder. She was just 2 years older to the women, yet they insisted on calling her 'didi'. Sighing, she cursed her bad luck as she walked over to them."Hello Raima and Neelu" Simran said politely as she went and stood by them, holding the heavy grocery bag with one arm.
"Simran didi! Guess what Vijay got for me for Valentine's!" Neelu squeeled as she lifted her chin and held her diamond necklace between two fingers, pulling it out to make it obvious to Simran. Simran smiled politely and complemented it. "How sweet of Vijay" Simran said, as she shifted the bag from one hand to another. When will this get over? She wondered. "I know. But i told him, that next time he needs to buy me a whole set" Neelo giggled, and Simran laughed politely. "Oh guess what di!" Raima said, "My Hemu got me this ring for valentine's!" She held out a finger where a big rock of diamond was glittering on a gold band.
Simran's eyebrows shot up as she saw the diamond."Wow Raima, that's beautiful" Simran breathed. "I know di, but like Neelu, I told him, next time i want matching earrings" She giggled, and Simran looked at her incredulously. "What did Karan ji, get for you?" The two women asked in unison, as they leaned in closer, their eyebrows shooting up in nosy curiosity.Simran flushed as she felt herself being scrutinized by the two women."N-nothing" She stammered, and looked away embarrassed as Neelu gasped in shock. "Di! This is atrocious! You need to tell Karanji to do something!" She exclaimed and Simran bit her lip in hesitancy. "No Neelu, they have been married for 7 years yaar. Love starts to go away the longer you are married. I am sure Simran di got plenty of surprises when she was a newlywed. Am I right?" Raima asked Simran who through of the countless surprises Karan would give her when they were newlywed.
Raima took her silence as agreement, and carried on, "I am telling you Neelu, after 3 years the couples start to take each other for granted. There isn't that spark anymore" Feeling her tears prickling with tears, Simran quickly excused herself and went back to her apartment. Was it true? Was there no love left in her relationship? Did Karan really take her for granted? Picking up the phone, she called up Karan. After a few rings he finally picked up,
"Hello" He said, sounding distracted and busy.
"Hi" Simran said, clutching the phone tightly to her ear.
"Yeah, why'd you call?" Karan asked.
"To hear your voice" Simran said, a small smile playing at the corner of her lips. They would always play this game when they were newlyweds. Karan would flirt with her, and Simran would start blushing as Karan whispered sweet-nothings to her. "Simran, I have work" Karan sighed over the phone and Simran frowned. "You always have work" Simran grumbled. "You don't even remember what today is"
"Simran, sorry jaan, but I have to go, I have a lot of work" Karan said in a distracted voice, and Simran realised he hadn't listened to anything she had said. "Fine" She snapped, "Do your work, bye" And she hung up. Just as she put the phone down her stomach weighed down with guilt. She shouldn't have fought with him, After all he was working hard to make sure herself and Aryan could have the luxuries they wanted.
Was their love really gone? Had the attraction fizzled away. Feeling tears prickling her eyes, Simran wiped them away with the back of her hand sniffling. Suddenly feeling envious of Neelu and Raima, Simran got up with a sigh and went on with doing the chores of the house in a glum mood.

Aryan had returned from his pre-school and Simran had already served him snacks and dinner. It was approaching 10 pm and Karan still hadn't returned from work. Flipping through the TV, she tried keeping the volume as low as possible since Aryan was fast asleep. Sighing, she looked up at the clock again and saw it was 10:15 pm. Where is he? She thought frustrated. He could have called. Grumbling under her breath, she could feel the tension and worry rising with every passing minute. After her tiff with him today, Simran really wanted him to come home so they could talk it out. She needed to know that the spark was still there. That he loved her. The harsh words spoken by Neelu and Raima were constantly playing around in Simran's head, making her worry about Karan's whereabouts.
Looking at her phone, she thought of swallowing her pride and calling him up. How can he be so irresponsible? She thought furiously as she put dialed his number from speed dial He knows I worry, yet he never calls. Simran grew even more worried as his phone was unreachable. Switching off the TV she kept glancing at the clock every few minutes, her worry increasing tenfold as she saw it was now approaching 11 pm. He was never this late. Where was he. Biting her nails, she stared at the door, waiting for his knock on the door. But it didn't come. She kept glancing at the clock and saw that it was 11:15 pm. She could feel the fear increasing. All sorts of dreadful things were flashing through her mind, however she tried to keep a level head. He would have a good reason for staying out this late.Keep calm She told herself, however it was getting harder and harder.
Where could he be?! She wondered as she saw that it was 11:30 now. She called up again, but it was unreachable once more. She regretted the short phone call they had this morning. She shouldn't have let Neelu and Raima get to her. She loved her husband, and that was enough. Suddenly she heard a quiet knock on the door, and Simran ran to the door, opening it in relief and taking in the tired sight of her husband. He looked at her sheepishly, and Simran launched herself into his arms, holding him tight. "Never, ever do this to me again, understand!" Simran whispered harshly, and Karan held her just as tight, dropping a kiss on the side of her head."I am sorry" He said, and Simran smacked the side of his arm to show her frustration, but hugged him tighter. His arms encircled her waist and inhaled her flowery scent dropping another kiss in her hair. Pulling away he looked at her a small smile playing at the corner of his lips, "Come with me" He said, and Simran looked at him confused. "Come!" He insisted, pulling on her hand, but Simran pointed towards Aryan's room."Aryan is sleeping" She said, as she looked at him bewildered.
"I have the baby monitor on" Karan explained, tugging on her arm and taking her outside their apartment door. "Where are we going?" She asked confused, but Karan shook his head and tugged on her arm to go up the stairs. "Karan wha-" She started, but was cut off with Karan putting a hand on her mouth."Shh. Trust me" He said, a mischievous glint in his eye.
Simran grinned, excited. She loved surprises!
She nodded and followed him up the stairs. As they reached the door of the terrace, Karan took out a black cloth. "I am going to blindfold you for the surprise" He explained, and tied the cloth around her eyes. Simran giggled in excitement, her hands resting on the cloth, taking in the softness of it. She held out her hands, suddenly afraid of not being able to see anything. Karan grabbed her hands, and guided her to the terrace. "Almost there" He whispered, and Simran could feel her breathing increasing as the uncertainty of what was coming next started getting to her. They came to a stop, and Simran held her breath waiting for instructions. "Okay I will remove it now" He said, and his hand moved to the back to remove the blindfold.
Simran opened her eyes slowly, and felt her breath leaving her in an instant as she took in the scene in front of her. The whole terrace had been decorated with rose petals, and a lone table and two chairs sat in the middle of it. There were candles everywhere, giving the whole area a romantic feel, and she could hear soft music emanating from a music system. It was almost a replica of what was done 7 years ago. She turned to him with tears in her eyes and Karan looked at her with a pleased expression. "You thought I forgot" He said, smirking, and Simran nodded sheepishly."I did" She admitted, and took a step towards him, while he did the same.
"I love you so much" Simran said, her voice cracking at the end of the sentence as the heavy emotions made her throat clench with unshed tears.
"I love you too baby" He whispered, and leant down to capture her lips in his. Simran wrapped her arms around his neck and deepened the kiss.
Who said that love diminished as the years went by?
For Simran and Karan, it only seemed to deepen.

8. Indeed it was again beautiful valentine day
The weather was bit chilled and air was cold and soft, standing at the window of her room Sara closing her eyes feeling the cool breeze playing with her hairs and touching her soft skin. She opened her eyes and gave look to clock hanging on wall,
"8.PM!Again he will be come late" she murmured under her breath shaking her head slightly, As usual she was waiting for her husband, Ayan Malik. A well known businessman, who always gave preference to his business but there was another fact too and that was he loved his wife a lot and that was the reason which did never let her feel that he had took her as granted. Though there were less moment which she could count or remember. When they were together and had spent some time together.
She could remember the day when he had proposed her, how much he was nervous and hesitant to even say her "he loves her"and when he had said those words that too in typical businessman tone like he was going to final an important deal. Her lips curled into smile. But that was the thing which made her fall in love with him truly, madly, deeply. She liked his honesty, his simplicity and had accepted him the way he was. So she had never complained him about anything.
"Sara!!!"two arms crawled up her waist from behind and she shuddered to feel soft warmth breath closed to her ears. She opened her eyes and smiled. After how many days she felt his strong arms around her body, squeezing her possessively. "Ayan!!!"his name escaped from her lips in bit surprising tone and she turned around still in his strong embrace and looked up only to find his two brown hazel eyes starring her with soft smile on his lips. The intensity in his eyes had made her heart skipped and then she realized after how many days she was actually seeing the same intensity and passion in his eyes which she had felt that day when he had confessed his love to her. "Ap aa gaye!!!" trying to control her raising heartbeat to feel herself in her arms. He leaned forward starring in her eyes.. "Are you expecting someone else" he said in bit naughty tone widened her eyes in shocked she playfully hit his chest. "It's not like that.. I was just asking today..you."she startled feeling his intense gaze on her and felt her cheeks turned red. She opened her mouth to say something when he shushed her by keeping his finger on her lips and Sara rolled her eyes in confusion and instead, his full lips curled up at the corners which caused a definite break in her heart rhythm.
"Cant you give me chance to say you something to you like you gave me at the same day 14the February a one year ago" she stared into his eyes, he was too serious but love was reflecting from his eyes was raising her heart beat fast. He brushed her hair aside from her face which were blowing due to air and was disturbing his view. She held her breath for a moment feeling the contact between their skins and slight audible moaned escaped from her lips. He cupped her face and made her look at him,
"I love you Sara"
The same loved filled, husky voice flattered her heart and she stared into the glittering sincerity of his eyes and her lips curled into huge smile while some tears brimmed in her eyes. She felt as all complains, all the memories of those moments which she had spent without him waiting for him had been removed after listening those three words. He removed those tears from her cheeks holding her face in his hands'
"I Love you Sara, truly, madly, deeply. You are my life, you know Sara after spending the busy day in office when I come back and see you standing near the window waiting for me engulfs happiness in my heart that I have someone in my life, who loves me immensely. Thanks for loving me back "he smiled completing his sentence in huskily voice and she grinned starring into her eyes. He pulled her for hug and she willingly came in his arms, in her husbands' arms.
"I love you too Ayan"she whispered hiding her face in his arms and he tightly enveloped her in his arms. After how many days they were feeling each other presence. They pulled apart and Ayan lovingly caressed her cheek, holding her hand he dragged her towards mirror. He stepped behind and hugged her from back encircling his arms possessively around her waist while Sara was taken aback at his sudden action looking at him surprisingly." I have something for you"he whispered in her ears. "What"she said anxiously and starring her reflection in mirror he smiled to see a small frown on her face.
He reached into the pocket of his suit and He put a closed fist in front of her face, and then opened it. A diamond necklace with a heart shaped pendant dangled from his fingers, "this." Her sharp intake of breath was audible, "Oh..Ayan it's beautiful." She felt her eyes moisten. "But not more than you" he said kissing her cheek and slight blushed crept over her face. "Happy Valentine day and happy our first confession anniversary too" He fastened the necklace around her neck and planted kiss on her cheek. She looked at him surprisingly, he remembered today was valentine day, their first confession anniversary. She thought he had forgotten.
She shook her head as she always claimed that she knew her husband very well but today how would she forgot the fact" he loves her truly, madly deeply and this fact cant never be changed". She turned around and encircled her arms around his neck and this time Ayan turn to gave her confuse expression.."Now it's my Turn!!!i mean you deserve reward" she said looking at his lips but then the smile which had been appeared on Ayan's lips to see her blushing had took her breath for a moment and she lowered her eye lashes. He pulled her towards him and she collapsed with his chest, holding her breath she looked up and he leaned down looking at her lips.
"Thanks for beautiful reward" he whispered huskily and she closed her eyes feeling His warm breath feathered across her cheek. He slightly brushed his lips with her and captured her lips for passionate kiss...feeling each other close to them, they surrendered them to each other...It was indeed another beautiful valentine day...
