Suffering heroine & TRPs

I was thinking why do soaps with crying female protagonist garner the highest trps.why do the audiences get hooked to the shows where the woman is suffering or is being tortured by her MiL or is having marital troubles . I guess people love seeing these shows because they then think thank god my life is better, I have a loving spouse, a normal MiL. ,my in laws are way better, they are definitely good than the TV ones .So My life is easier than the female of this or that show. So My reasoning is that is reason for these rona dhona type shows becoming popular is because it makes us feel better about ourselves. What do you say folks? What is your reasoning ?

I think people relate to those soaps alot because at some point everyone has husband/MIL problems and I think when they see a strong lead person on TV trying to fight and find happiness, it encourages people. At the same time I think that some of the soaps are pretty unrealistic.
