The veteran actress has showcased her talent on both the small and big screen with characters like that of Dadi in the famous Yeh Pyaar Na Hoga Kam. She has also done shows like Gunaho Ka Devta and Ganga Ki Dheej.
Sony TV recently launched their new offering Shubh Vivah under the banner of UTV and it seems that the channel is leaving no stone unturned to promote their fresh venture.'There are many guys like Amrit in real life'
When he was acting in Balaji shows, Eijaz Khan didn't have a say in anything that he did on TV. He trusted his mentor Ekta Kapoor so much that he did any role she asked him to. Later, he became so choosy that Eijaz says he turned down several serials. Except for a guest appearance in Bhaskar Bharti two years ago. Eijaz says that post-Balaji he became tired and disillusioned with TV. "I had the best of time with Balaji. But I didn't feel like doing anything after that. So I concentrated on films."
Now he is back on home ground with a lead role in Shubh Vivaah. In the serial, Eijaz plays a small-town rustic who, though intelligent and hardworking, doesn't follow the straight path.
Elaborating on his role, he says, "Amrit is street smart; he is a manipulator and money-minded. He is also a smooth talker and can easily wriggle out of any situation. He doesn't want to get married but agrees to marry Saroj because his mother wants a daughter-in-law." The reason for Amrit not wanting a wife is that his physical needs are already met as he's having an affair with a married woman.
What happens to the marriage then? "Being an emotional blackmailer, he is able to handle things initially but later it becomes painful," says Eijaz. So, it's a negative character? "It is neither negative nor positive but a mix of both. In my opinion, it is quite relatable. There are so many guys like Amrit in real life," he defends.

'Women will easily relate to my role'
Making her debut in serials like Woh Rehne Wali Mehlon Ki a couple of years ago, model-turned-actor Neha Janpandit has always been fascinated by showbiz. "From modelling to acting, the transition was quite easy because I cracked my very first audition for Woh Rehne Wali'," says Neha. Though she tasted success with her debut show, Neha's subsequent shows Shradha and Chajje Chajje Ka Pyaar didn't excite viewers enough. Now, she is hoping that Shubh Vivaah is a surprise winner. "It has a lot of surprising twists and turns. Saroj's marriage to Amrit is the first in a series of twists that come later," she reveals.
Neha says Saroj gets married for the sake of her family's happiness. "Saroj is the second daughter in the family. She is an ambitious girl, who excelled in her studies and wanted to become a doctor. But after her mother's death she sacrifices her dream. Though a strong girl, she gets married because of an unavoidable situation," she elaborates. Does she live a life of compromise then? "There is lot of pain in her life. But her inner strength helps her tide over the situation," she adds.
Whether she eventually reforms her two-faced and cheating husband will be seen, but Neha assures that the character's journey is interesting. "Besides sympathising with her, women will also easily relate to her," says Neha.

Sony overturns its previous decision to reschedule the love-knows-no-age-difference story. Do you wonder why?Kuch Toh Log Kahenge fans ' and we hear there are quite a few ' can rejoice. They won't have to wait till late into the night for their favourite show to air, just because Sony is launching a new show Shubh Vivaah. KTLK, starring Mohnish Behl, Karan Wahi and Kritika Kamra, will continue to be telecast at 8pm. When Shubh Vivaah was first announced, Sony had planned to air it at 8pm and push KTLK to 11pm. The channel had even informed their viewers about the time change, but when there were just ten days for the show to go on air, Sony officials changed their minds and decided to expand their prime time slot instead. Shubh Vivaah, starring Rakesh Bedi, Neha Janpandit and Eijaz Khan, will air at 7:30pm from February 27.
Sources tell us that the decision was arrived at after Sony officials took a closer look at their competition. Sasural Simar Ka on Colors and Sasuraal Genda Phool on Star Plus which air at 7:30pm are both doing extremely well. They realised that it's no longer correct to say that no one will watch a show before 8pm as the working middle class wouldn't have returned home yet. So there's no reason why Shubh Vivaah, which has Eijaz as its main draw, won't do well too. Another reason is that Kuch Toh Log Kahenge is steadily gaining more viewership. Sony officials admitted that KTLK is one of their top shows right there with CID and Bade Achche Lagte Hain. The time change could very well harm the show and thereby the ratings for the channel. Something that Sony wouldn't want to risk for the sake of a new show. If pushing Shubh Vivaah to 7:30pm will keep everyone ' Sony, KTLK fans and makers ' happy, then why not?

Veteran actor Rakesh Bedi is a well-known face in the telly industry who has garnered a wide appreciation for his role of Dilruba in comedy serial "Shrimaan Shrimati". The actor will once again grace the small screen with his role in television serial "Shubh Vivah".
Till now in his career Rakesh has always played comedic roles and this will be the first time that the actor will don the hat for a serious role. The actor was approached by the makers of "Shubh Vivah" to play a role in their daily soap and Rakesh has given a nod to it.
Rakesh said that it is the first time in his 35 years of acting that he will be doing an emotional role and he is really looking forward to it. He added that he wanted to try his hands on some other role other than the spoofy stuff he has been doing so this time around he has got a chance to experiment with a new role. Furthermore, the actor said that these daily soaps require a lot of drama so what he is wondering is that will he be able to deliver those melodramatic expressions?
Rakesh Bedi's character in "Shubh Vivah" will be that of a father to five-grown up daughters.
Another interesting project that the actor has been handling is a play Massage where he is playing 24 various characters. Also, another venture of Rakesh Bedi will be a show titled "Hai Rabba Main Kya Karoon" which will be produced by Ramanand Sagar starring ace actor Arshad Warsi. Shubh Vivaah on Sony television is all set to give tough competition to Colors and Star Plus. With Uttar Pradesh as the backdrop, Shubh Vivaah tells the story of a family of five daughters. The head of the family is played by Rakesh Bedi, known most for his comic roles in TV and films alike. Speaking about the change in forte, Rakesh says, "I am credited with many comic roles, but I'm also an emotional man at heart. For the first time, I will be playing the serious role of a father to five motherless daughters."
A father of two, Rakesh admits to being inspired by real life to play the character. "I have two daughters. One is of marriageable age. So when I opted for the father's role in Shubh Vivaah, I thought of my real daughters. As a father, I keep wondering about their marriages too. But unlike my reel role, I am not the rigid type who will not allow his daughters to go in for love marriages. In fact, I keep asking my daughter everyday if she has a boyfriend and if she is keen on marrying him. My daughter's happiness is most important to me."
When asked whether the transition to serious roles was easy, Rakesh quips, "I remember shooting a sequence where I fix the date for my elder daughter's wedding. One of the in-laws to be says, 'Ladki ki shaadi ho ya arthi uth rahi ho, dono sthithi ek saman hi hain' (Whether a girl is getting married or dying, it is the same thing). That dialogue made me so emotional that I had to take a break before I reshot the scene. It's my first emotional role and I hope to do the best. I hope the audiences admire me in this avatar too. It's a heartfelt role, indeed."
Shubh Vivaah which is a Hindi adaptation of the Tamil serial Metti Oli will go on air from February 27.

The actor returns to the small screen after a long gap in Sony's new show Shubh Vivaah. He gets candid about Ekta Kapoor and his take on the institution of marriageHere's some good news for all those women who oohed and aahed every time Eijaz Khan appeared on their television screens. Eijaz is back! After a long break, the actor has signed on to be in Shubh Vivaah. The new show has him playing a small business owner who is looking for a daughter-in-law for his mother and not a wife for himself. Seems unromantic, but we are sure Eijaz can make even such a guy loveable. We caught up with him as he spoke about his dream girl and his soul searching adventures.
On the institution of marriage
I think in India we give extra importance to marriage. I have not made any milestone in my life – that at this age I will get married or anything. It will happen when it has to happen. I am just concentrating on things I like to do right now, like my profession. My folks are damn cool. My dad doesn't bother. He is more like my friend.
On his dream girl
My dream girl is very close to Kareena (Kapoor). I don't know why, it's happening for the first time in my life. I never see an actor in that way, but when I see her I just… (he blushes).
On his soul searching journey
I was in Dharamshala for three months. I had a lot of soul-searching to do. When you act continuously, the lines between who you really are and who you are portraying tend to get blurred. I had to face myself, know what my shortcomings are, the many lies I told myself, and how to end all that. I don't think I got all my answers, but I did get a path to walk on. I have become more aware, because I have stopped lying to myself. That is my biggest achievement. The best part is, it is now easier for me to emote honestly on screen.
On working with mentor Ekta Kapoor
I am still in touch with Ekta; Balaji is still home ground. In the four years I was there, I have done ten years' work. I have worked 70 hours non-stop for Kkavyanjali. I used to challenge myself to do that. I do have a lot of good friends in Balaji even now and often drop in to say hello. As and when Ekta offers me something she thinks is appropriate, I would love to do it.
On working in 'female-oriented' shows
In television, every day is Friday. You have to be super efficient to deliver. You have to perform in three minutes and in two takes. I don't think it matters whether television shows are male- or female-oriented. If you do good work, you'll automatically be noticed.
On doing saas-bahu shows
Don't call them crap! My pay cheques come from there. We sell what the viewers want to buy. We cater to the audience's tastes. If they change, we'll cater to that too.
Shubh Vivaah premieres on February 27 at 7:30pm on Sony Entertainment Television
