Viju Shah wants credit for his father's work
By IndiaFM News Bureau, June 30, 2006 - 04:48 IST
Viju Shah, son of music director Kalyanji Shah of the Kalyanji-Anandji duo is somewhat upset with the makers of the Shahrukh Khan starrer Don. Producer Ritesh Sidhwani and director Farhan Akhtar have decided to use two original tracks from the 1978 Don that starred Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role. Music directors Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy have reworked on two tracks 'Khaike Pan Banaras Wala' and 'Yeh Mera Dil' from the original.

However Viju Shah is upset over the fact that Sidhwani or Akhtar didn't inform him about the same. Shah wants credit and royalty for his father's work. According to Viju Shah, after his father's death, he and his brothers have been looking after the estate.

However the producer has a different story to say. Sidhwani informs that he has officially bought the musical rights of those two tracks from the original film that is with the music company Saregama HMV. He agreed that they are using two original tracks from the 1978 Don. As far as paying royalty is concerned, he explained that the music director didn't have any rights over the tracks but the music company had. So there should be no issue about its royalty. Nevertheless he says that he will be giving credits to the veteran music composers in his film.
