I have just recently started watching yeh rishta and I am loving it! Its so nice to see that such situations don't only exist in my household but all over. I am a new mom (6 month old baby) and I feel like I am watching a part of my life! While I understand the joy of being a grandma, why do grandparents(MIL especially) forget that they have raised their children and now it's the daughter in laws turn to raise her kids..I am happy to see that I am not alone feeling that being a mum you want to do everything for your child, its your new chapter in your life and it's your baby(yes you get possessive) but its awful when mother in laws then want to take over n try n be the mum rather than grandma!

yaa exactly..this had happened with me too with my daughter..lucikly for my son who's now 6 month old..i didn't had this prob..my mil too was trying this...i was just name sake mom, with my daughter, just when she needed milk..i was so angry with all this..i was so helpless..if my daughter cried also, i was not allowed to take care of her..mil was behaving as if she's the mom & i meant nothing to my daughter...this part of epi reminds me of my old days

MILS don't understand that they have raised their kids a certain way without interference, but now its our turn to do so (they didn't have to live with in-laws since they were here in the US). One thing I've always hated is whenever I told my MIL not to do something, or give a particular food, she'd go behind my back, and do it. Hence my child would act spoiled. FYI, those of you who are facing any situations like this, you need to put your foot down and insist on taking care of your own child, and your in-laws following those ways..say it in a nice way. Do tell your MIL that you would appreciate any advice they give, but ultimately you are the child's mother, hence you get to decide whats good for the child or not. Don't be afraid of confrontation.

Believe me, I've been thru my own issues, and I had no choice but to stand up for myself and my child. It resulted in some major confrontations in the beginning, but in the long run it panned out, because today, my MIL will think twice before doing something I don't like. She admitted to the whole family that she used to ignore everything I told her to do, and now she realizes that because of her behavior, it was affecting my child's personality and habits. One day at her house, and it would take me the better part of the week to try to straighten my child out. Grandmoms are much more lenient than moms are, hence children know they can get away with anything. But when the child does something wrong, or develops bad habits, the blame will go Only on the mom, even if she had no hand in it. So then you're in a no-win situation.

We are temporarily living with my inlaws so
That's not helping but when I just had him she was too difficult...she wanted to look after him n expected that I do all the housework so kept taking him off me and also suggesting that he sleeps With her! I mean I breastfeed even then she wanted that I leave him in her room then when he would cry n she would bring him to me...she really pushed me to give him bottle but I stayed firm...only so she could feed him.

It's good that these shows exist so mils hopefully realise and remember that being a mom you want to do ecerythig for your children.
