I believe it does take a lot to decide that one would finally want to end one's own life.
Attachment is hard to give up and humans are a very sentimental lot.

This is a great coincidence. I just now finished watching Guzarish, and logged on to IF. And since it had been a long time I visited debate mansion thot of checking it out , and saw this topic.
It is a difficult decision for the family and friends of the person who is suffering. I would say wait for a miracle. but from the disabled person's perspective putting an end to the pain , if there is no chance for cure, is a thot to consider.

I agree with you, especially if there is suffering and sometimes also when we are troubling others too much and do not want to inconvenience them.
But then the Family may not want to let us go.
In some cases the Family hope that the old and sick people die sooner.

Sometimes the decision has to be made based on what is good for everybody.
Personally we may want to go, but then, the timing may be too early as some of the kids still want half a dad rather than no dad or mum.
If the kids are fully grown up and not much responsibiities left it may be okay to say good bye.
But most religions are against this.
Some may prefer to finish off whatever karma is owed.
