i dont think that touch is awkward
.i think he kept his hand just to reassure her that he is with her in her bad times.otherwise her family members never with her when she needs them most.

In past also Rishi assure his presence with Indira in her bad times without touching her... & till this episode Rishi was never shown that he wants to touch Indira. So me as a viewer also found awkward.

but indira is from middle class society and this is not easy for her to be close in public.

-she is the one who taken his hand in her hand.

her awkwardness starts once she gets sure rishi is also loving her.

it is true also.
once her emotion is out and she is back to normal then her usual awkwardness returns.
