Sorry for making this thread since i didnt know where to put this post as the one where i cd have is closed for reasons my sad little brain fails to understand. Plz do fell free to close this thread if it hurts the fragile sensibilities.

a mod post was made in the thread for explicitness or in my 'perverse' mind downright hypocrisy
"This thread is getting out of hand. The Development Team did not ban Pandora's Box. All we did was tell the author that the explicit chapter (and all you readers know exactly which one that is) should be rewritten with the graphic content removed. We have to enforce the rules of the forum. If we do not receive any response to our warnings and the graphic content remains in the thread, we would have no choice but to ultimately close (at least temporarily) the FF. However, it never got to that point with Pandora's Box. I don't think any writer should close their FF, but I can't change the rules of the forum. I am just trying to get writers to cooperate. If they choose not to follow the rules which are clearly printed in multiple places on the forum, then decide to close their FFs when we try to get them to comply, what can we really do?
Anyway, I don't want this thread to become a war zone. Topic closed.
"

Okay so does it mean that we live in an age of dictatorship? the reason I ask is just because when the poor illiterate me last checked we live in the age of democracy and each of us have every right to question validity of rules imposed on freedom of speech. Can you please clarify that just because some one has the power they can use it in any way they perceive right when they find themselves in sticky position. coz that post and the subsequent closing of the thread screamed of blatant disrespect of the opinions of those IF members who do not belong to the esteemed group of moderators. when ppl support the rule-makers then there is nooo problem, but when they r questioned they fail to successfully justify their stand on equal grounds without the display of power which in this case is closing of thread. If somebody tries to dictate or influence someone's writing its almost saying that they are crap. the lovely words the poster has used above in plain words actually mean that" i m holding a gun to ur head, write the damn thing the i want coz i know it better or else i shut it down." or in other words we call it god complex. i m not saying that i am absolutely right, i can definitely be wrong but atleast i have the courtsey to put forward my view in the open and defend. if u believe u r right prove me or those who hold opinions somewhat like me wrong through healthy debate without pulling position.
i m sorry if it sounds rude and horrid and blah blah but i have learnt to defend my decisions when ppl question and not hide judging them as immature cribbers out there to fight. I was of the opinion those who were posting in that thread irrespective of whether in favour or against were mature enough to hold a discussion/debate. I don't know abt others but I find it a slap on the face of my intellect as i was one of the posters in that thread. This may be a virtual world but ppl participating here are real. if IF does not have ppl who understand different forms of literature, start a application for ff writers which needs to get approved b4 they can post their ff by you, coz then it saves all these uncomfortable moments for both the authors and the readers.

So Agree with what you have to say Daisy...I went to the thread to write my opinion and found put that it was closed. It is truly ironic that a platform for writers strictly monitors opinions of members and closed those that deem unfit...freedom of speech I believe ...
So if you dont mind I am going to post here what I meant to do there and this is not aimed at the Mods whose duty is to uphold regulations but aimed at the regulators themselves to please reconcider ...
Plz if you are in the know forward our opinions on to those who have the ability to make the change...

I am an avid reader of fiction especially of the south Asian genre.

IF has been a great source to access authors who are not published yet very talented. It gives amateur writers an avenue to test their talent and receive instant feedback and the much required and well deserved support from a multitude of potential audience. For budding authors it is indeed a cocoon to whet their pens upon.

Forums such as these are a much needed oasis to encourage the many, who have the talent and strive to give their best.

I understand the need for forums such as these to set guidelines that allow it to function so as to achieve the goals it set itself up for and protect its participants.

In my humble opinion that would be the writers who choose to display their work and ultimately Fiction itself.

The audience can choose to remain anonymous, and are an unknown quantity where as the authors put themselves out there for all to judge at the risk of their hard work and personal journeys being exploited without protection that a publishing house could give them.

Thus is it not the author that needs protecting? An author that you choose to give a platform to has to work within the limitations of his/her creativity rather than the limitations of an archaic moral compass. An author needs to be given the freedom to pen a tale in the best way they deem fit to reach an audience and take this audience through the journey of the author's imagination

While I understand the need to spurn out po*nography, should not the calibre of a story be judged by the virtue of its content in its entirety?

Promoting sexual violence, child po*n sexual enslavement etc in my opinion would amount to po*nography not an expression of love between consenting adults. I do agree that there are a few who do abuse this platform and write crass tasteless excuses for stories which is evident in their use of language and the absence of a story.

As a dabbler in creative writing myself I know it is absolutely difficult to find the right word to project ones thoughts on to paper. To be able to express your anger, guilt sorrow love and the many other emotions so your faceless audience can feel it with you. The hardest of this is to be able express love making without it being crude or just a biological act.

I'm sorry if I have been long winded but the case and point of my rant is Pandora's box. The author has put in so much of herself to research minute details and present a periodic story to enthral and captivate a large fan following. Just judging by the outcry here and on her thread, and the support of co-authors who choose to pause their own stories in protest, one can understand where the pendulum lies in the judgement of this ff.

Correct me if I am wrong but the soaps that the IF forum is based around are stories that are built on the sexual tensions of the protagonists and to a certain extent the antagonist of the tales. So sexual content for fiction built on the basis of these soaps is inevitable don't you think?

My humble request: You have a great platform here. You are doing a great service toward the art of creative writing. Please do not hinder your own advancement by curtailing authors who are the pride of your forum. Minnimuffin is not only a very gifted writer but also a great positive influence to other budding authors. She sets a very high benchmark when it comes to quality of writing both in content and style.

Finally last but not the least please do not do the disservice of curtailing us (the audience that you proclaim to be protecting) from accessing such beautiful work of such gifted authors.

I myself joint this forum for this very reason to fulfill my desire of reading excellent and fulfilling works of creativity. I believe I also have the capacity to judge what is worth my time and the ability to weed out material that does not suit my sensibilities and if I am not capable of such I should not be surfing the internet to start with. Please do not insult my intelligence by presuming that I need to be told what is ok for me to read let me be the judge of that.

i would totally endorse Tangam's view. PB is a very fine piece of work done by a writer who will by the looks of it has a natural and rare talent. we should be mature enough to take it as such. We are not living in the 1940s.

mind you there are some OS that I have read on this forum which give me the impression that they have been written for the s* explicit content with bits of story thrown in to try and legimitize it as a story. this is definitely not the case with PB there is a definitive well researched well presented storyline, and the content is just a natural, open minded and complete follow on to an equally open minded and completely natural story written by an exceptionally gifted writer.

i really do not think that PB is in the same class as these other OSs and should not be treated as such. those who find it offensive should not be reading it.
