I have not had a great life, either.
My advice to you would be to stand up for your MIL. Support her, because this involves your family & your child's future as well.
But i would also suggest that you should device a plan, because if it has been going on for years, your FIL must definitely be a smart man.
Don't take any decision/step in haste, think calmly & being a law student, i would suggest legal help is the simplest way to get out of this mess. Gather some evidence against your FIL beforehand, in case he turns the case on you.

This is where Maryada is the best ...These women can be found in reality .. They are not like Gopu Bahu , Aksharas ..They are real

my sentiments exactly...could not belive that akshara lasted 3 years...and they are thinking of axing this show..actually i can...now that i think about it..
akshara is like lalaland...where what to cook seems to be the highlight and petty issues.and glycerine reigns supreme...apart from losing the house,..which was the closest to a real scenario..no offense to any viewers and i do watch the show occassionally
.but in this show which is the best soap i have ever seen on indian televison...there are too many realities and tracks that resemble the skeletons in our family closets and i appreciate the person starting this forum...so people do not like looking in the mirror or seeing problems related in their "relaxation time" and perhaps it makes us think. ...it is like when i have free time...would i rather rather watch a romantic comedy to make me laugh or a documentary of the problems in society...
...or embarassed or whatever...sad part is that psychopaths like brahma...and quiet accomplices who put up a farce of being the perfect family in a perfect household and keeping up the act are way too frequent...gaurav and vidya...the best track and couple...with their own identity crises and victim of their circumstances...aditya making all the promises to priya but when time came to prove his love and support, he crumbled faster than a dried up cookie...rd the typical indian politician who would do anything for retaining her power...but shades of grey...greyer...as a mother who will do anything to protect her child...even risk her own power and society image...amazing characterizations and i do love this show for the reason some may find it uncomfortable...they are trying to pass a message about reality and looking at perspectives through a microscope all under one roof...vidyas parents who are just as society freaked out and would put their daughter through anything just to prove to society that all is well in their house...uttara is also shades of grey..and a pretty good actress...because we all loved her...loved to hate her...love ourselves for forgiving her...because she broke down and admitted she was wrong...still dont forgive her and wish she had killed him..but then aditya would have canonized him as a saint...so interesting twist...i hope this show gets another extension and would rather watch vidya GAURAV /priya RD roles anyday over nayva or akshara...even uttara who killed her husband who was physically abusive...and because brahma saved her from prison...transferred her idolism to him...her knight in shining armour...and being manipulative...took advantage of it...and because she had a complex about her sister being better than her...took the opportunity to put her down and have 1 up over her...so cannot forgive her character...understand it but not justify it...tno offense to those shows or loyal viewers...as the caveat goes, this is just my personal opinion and NO OFFENSE meant to those viewers ...
they characterize how they took their lifechanging experiences and made the best of it...to survive period...and that too under the same roof...heaven help them...not surprised the daughter takes off to study in London...in real life situations...the kids of similiar parents want to move as away as geographically possible becuase they cannot stand the reality either...but too helpless to do anything about it...so they move away...hear no evil. see no evil...

Hello everyone,

Just want to share my thoughts. The main reason why women endure rather than fight for justice is because they don't have support to do it. By support, I mean someone behind them and more importantly money support which a woman will need if she leaves her husband because of her husband's bad deeds. Just imagine in today's world and in the past the situation is the same. Women no matter how much they get educated, eventually they have to stay home and take care of their kids. In this process she is at home all the time and is not making any money or security for herself in the event that her husband would do injustice with her. So all of a sudden, how can she fight back because then she will have nowhere to go and nobody to support her. Therefore, she endures everything and stays quiet. In this world everyone out there is looking out for themselves. Nobody can afford to look out for someone extra. Even if the woman's brother took her responsibility, her life would be no better. She will be at the mercy of her sister-in-law. So any way you turn, the loss is your.
DEAD END..

Sorry, If I have offended anyone. Just my opinion.

If she is in Western country like Canada she just have to make a phone call to get help also financally
she can be taken care of i am sure only she needs to have her ID on her than she can teach her
husband a lesson as half of his property will go to her and also she will get alimony she just needs
some one like Priya to guide her.
