Definition of predator: An animal that naturally preys on others.
^^ Did that give us enough information? For me - no. That is why I have come up with a better analogy of why I feel Arnav is a predator at heart. Read on...
So a true predator is one that is known to kill and eat other organisms. Or they may hunt actively for prey. In this case, Khushi is his prey. After watching their interaction from today's episode, I felt more than just the usual passion filled gazes between them... Arnav's eyes conveyed a lot more. Like she looked so appealing and appetising, that he wanted to eat her up. Take a look at this picture below:
Arnav looked like he wanted to do more than eat her up... he wants her in his bedroom... behind closed doors... curtains shut... under the bed sheets... playing all sorts of passionate games.
This quote came into mind:
"You think intercourse is a private act; it's not, it's a social act. Men are sexually predatory in life; and women are sexually manipulative. When two individuals come together and leave their gender outside the bedroom door, then they make love." - Andrea Dworkin
This quote is apt for them. We saw the hunger inside Arnav on the night of Diwali. He was immersed in her beauty that he completely forgot the entire world around him. He forgot that she was Khushi: the middle-class girl that worked in his house to help his then fianc-to-be, Lavanya. And Khushi forgot that he was her laad governor, who always found ways to hurt her. That day they were just two human beings doing the most natural thing that their hearts wanted to.
Different Types of Behaviours
Aggression
"Predatory animals often use their usual methods of attacking their prey or to threaten grievous injury to their own predators."
The first half of the quote relates to Khushi. His usual way of behaviour towards Khushi is always met with aggression. By nature, Arnav is a man of few words. And when it comes to showing is feelings towards Khushi, most of the time it ends up with him grabbing her by the arms and the waist, and showing his usual glare.
The second half of the quote relates to all the other competitors out there who feel for Khushi. Forget Shyam for now, as Arnav doesn't know anything about his creepy ways. But you can see the threatening behaviour he portrays in front of NK. Remember the time NK dropped Khushi home, and Arnav was worried about not hearing from them? That's one example. Another being when the waiter eyed Khushi and Arnav gave him the deadliest stares:
NK
Shyam
Om Prakash
And how can we forget the waiter?!
Mobbing Behaviour
"Mobbing behaviour occurs when members of a species drive away their predator by cooperatively attacking or harassing it, usually to protect their offspring." In this case Khushi definitely isn't the offspring, but his love (obviously). Mobbing behaviour was visible during the Nainital trip, when that goondha pushed Khushi and she got injured on the head. Arnav immediately beat them up, since they hurt his lady love.
Humans and Predation
Arnav as a Predator
"Humans even use other predatory species in getting approaches to prey." This one sentence stood out for me because until recently, Arnav always used other people in getting approaches to prey on Khushi. The context of the word 'prey' here is Arnav getting a better understanding of Khushi. The predatory species being:
Anjali - because through her, he was able to understand that Khushi parents passed away, just like his. He was able to gain a better understanding of why she does things the way she does so. Such as, why she doesn't like extremely fast cars, why she has stars on top of her bed etc etc.
Lavanya - by being with her, he was able to realise that Khushi indeed meant something to him. He was able to see Khushi's helpful nature during the time she trained Lavanya. His feelings for her somewhat came out in the open, though he tried shoving his emotions back into a store room and go back into ASR mode. But he knew that there was something between them.
Payal - she was the one who told him about her wedding being broken because Khushi was stuck in the fashion show. Albeit small, Arnav gained a better perspective of Khushi and understanding that she may not be like other girls.
Arnav as a Prey
"A lone naked human is at a physical disadvantage to other comparable apex predators in areas such as speed, bone density, weight, and physical strength."
Now who is he a prey to? Any guesses? Yes it's us audience - the ladies in specific. Our eyes are only glued to him on the screen. We like to press the replay button so that we can watch his scenes repeatedly. After we're done; the creative ones make VMs, while the other bunch of ladies increase the views of the VMs, by watching it when the episodes aren't on. Some of the females here most probably have him as their desktop background pictures on their PC, laptop, phones and maybe their bedroom doors. Bravo to Barun for bringing Arnav to the reel life and setting everybody's screen on fire.
In conservation
"Predators are an important consideration in matters relating to conservation. Predators are often the species endangered themselves."
Endangered species are on the brink of extinction. Similarly men like Arnav are produced less in this world nowadays. This can be a worrying factor for all the single ladies out there - if they're looking for a man just like Arnav. So if there are any Arnav's out there in this world; please take care of them, until the day they marry one of the IPKKND fanatics. So please preserve them in glass boxes if you need to. But take care of them.
----------
So in conclusion, Arnav's each and every move is chosen thoughtfully. He is one stealthy creature. Predator not only means a lean mean killing machine. In Arnav's context, he is the one that can kill you with a look of his... a touch of his is the equivalent to getting shocked by a livewire... his deep voice holds a lot of sensuality in it... the voice can melt your heart into butter... and a swift movement of his can turn your mind into jelly.
"The sun, the moon and the stars would have disappeared long ago... had they happened to be within the reach of predatory human hands." - Henry Ellis
