Surviving test of time
Not many shows last beyond one year and only a few survive to celebrate their second anniversary. But Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai is one of the very few shows to complete three years. Launched in January 2009, it has been one of the top-rated shows, many times the no.1 and mostly one of the top five general entertainment shows. It is still averaging around 4 TVR and looks like it has a lot of steam left in it. Just a few months ago, it was in the danger of closing down or losing its slot to Sanjay Leela Bhansali's show. Apparently, Star Plus wanted to shift it to afternoon slot to accommodate Bhansali's show at 9.30 pm to use it's popularity to strengthen the channel's struggling afternoon band. However, producer Rajan Shahi didn't buy the idea and was in favour of closing the show. But before anything could happen, Bhansali's show got delayed and Yeh Rishta… survived.
