| Makrand Deshpande says his world fantasy is very close to reality | ||

| Kolkata, June 24: The curly mop is in place so is the luxuriant moustache, but Makrand Deshpande who loves to shock, gleefully says that he may do away with the moustache in a next couple of months. And as you begin to gawk at the thought of Makrand without the whiskers, he says nonchalantly, "It will be a miserable day when I am known for my looks and not my work." Recently in Kolkata to stage his play Ek Kadam Aage at the Hutch Odeon theatre festival, Makrand lets on that it's his first visit to the city and that he's excited about performing in a city that is known to love its theatre. His play Ek Kadam Aage, like all his productions treads the fine line between fantasy and reality. Makrand says that the entire play revolves around the concept of "How close are dreams to becoming reality?" and then in Hindi he asks, "Sapna vastav se kitna aage hota hai?"
An actor, director, producer, scriptwriter and lyricist Makrand has his fingers in numerous pies and is willing to try some more. A recent experiment that worked to his advantage was a cameo role in Kyunki Saans Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Laughing uproariously when asked about his experience in the Saans Bahu set-up he says, "I had a blast shooting for the role and the money was great." On a more serious note though he adds, it makes no sense to turn up one's nose about anything. "I can't be a purist 24 hours a day and Kyunki... was an interesting experiment. I was a crazy fan of Manmohan Desai and Amar Akbar Antony in my college days and for someone who believes in that genre of fantasy Kyunki... is not much different." |
