i think there is nothing wrong with expressing our views of an episode or character, even if they are negative. if we think a certain character is going downhill, it shouldn't be wrong to say so. attacking any member or celebrity personally, or swearing at characters without reason would be bashing. But the problem, Rach, is that the members often don't understand the difference between bashing and criticism. Bashing is baseless, done just for the sake of insulting characters/show/celebrities. Criticism is when you actually follow the show, and would like to see certain changes, or just don't like the way a certain storyline may be progressing. Members need to understand that just because a member makes some comments on a certain character going downhill, or a certain storyline not proceeding, doesn't mean that member's aim is to bash.
What happens is, members just pop in with "don't bash. keep your views to yourself. if you don't like it, don't watch". honestly, i feel such attitude is ridiculuous. why should we not watch? if we have been watching from beginning, we will watch. if we have been liking something, but don't anymore, I think we have the right to share our views. the purpose of forums is for members to share their views - and views can be positive and negative.I feel for the mods though, because mostly they have to come in and close threads when the threads get heated because of these silly attitudes. it's all because SOME members are not able to distinguish between bashing and constructive criticism, and they interfere in the thread, which leads to more arguments, which leads to topics being closed.to the mods: I understand the anti-bashing rules of IF. However, I also feel that the point about criticism being different than bashing needs to be emphasized more on this, and every other, forum. Members take advantage of the "no bash" rule so much that they generalise and apply it to every other comment that doesn't suit well with their views, which is not right. we should be allowed to share our views even if they are negative - how else will the cv's or any other show related folks be aware of our feedback? :S
