I am sure, just like in USA, it is not that easy to get Indian Tourist Visa so easily. It takes days, sometimes weeks before we can get Indian Tourist Visa. But somehow in PR, I am sure that these kids that are shown in Canada must have had Canadian citizenship by now, and how come these kids can go to India on such short notices. Can CV team tell us so that it will make for people in Canada and US visit India?

May be our good CV team of PR have no idea on how the life is in Canada or anywhere else

Well as far i know...since ovi and teju were born in india they are indian citizens by birth...so they dont need visa to visit india...

Now we dont know whether by now they have acquired canadian citizenship or they are still living there as residents...

to the best of my knowledge

Indo-canadians need a visa of some sort to go back to India.

they can get a short term one
a PIO card - 10 years
OCI - lifetime visa

there is no dual citiznship - the Indian constitution does not allow it

OCI - Overseas Citizen of India is the closest thing to dual

short term takes 1 business day usually if the office is acepting applications in person and up to 2 weeks if the process is mail in
OCI takes 4-6 months with all sorts of checks intensive

after living for 3 years as a permanent resident in Canada you can take Canadian citizenship or stay life long as a permanent resident. teju and ovi are allowed to come and go to India without visa if they never took Canadian citizenship and still hold their Indian citizenship/ current passport.

Indian citizenship and passport must be surrendered otherwise there is penalty and possible jail time before any other citizenship of any other country is taken per Indian rules

well if you have an OCI visa (like mentioned above) you can jump on a plane anytime to go to india so what they are showing is actually not that unrealistic.

@bold: yup..thats what i intended to convey in my earlier post...there are ppl who do such things actually...the only disadvantage of not obtaining citizenship is that you will not be entitled to vote...but apart from that i do not think there's any other disadvantage...but dont know in USA whether you get to be the jury if you are only a PR..😲

Chalo, for a time being accepted Teju's case based on above reasoning...but what about Sachin? I do not think that one can practise Law without obtaining citizenship? Any answers?
