It's not easy as you make it sound to be. Domestic violence is very serious and so many are suffering from it. If it was that easy to get away from ; so many would have been set free by now.

Actually restraining orders can be taken in India also. One needs to prove danger to life. Any violation of such an order if reported to police would result in a NBW and a criminal case.

Women are suffering in situations of domestic violence because we as a society idolize the doormat like women - likes of Vidya and Devyani and uphold them as ideals of womanhood. If we stop putting such women on a high pedestal and instead give them a tight slap for living like fools, we would have less of such incidents. Nothing stops a woman from hitting back, except that we've dinned into the heads of girls that such conduct is unwomanly.
