Kolkattan's witness EMET finalists last performance in India

Waves of screams rippled across an audience of 7000, triggered by

their contagious loud and crisp reactions as the two final jodis of Ek Main Aur Ek Tu performed in the Land of Sur- Kolkatta. After rousing audiences in Delhi, the jodis went on to steal the hearts of Kolkattan's in their last performance in India for the series.

Rohit Roy rushed back from promoting his films at IIFA( Dubai) to co-host the show with Ishitta. Hariharan was missing due to a family engagement, but Leslie Lewis had versatile singer Usha Uthup for company to judge the jodis performances.

Says Uthup, "I love this programme as it gives youngsters, a tremendous platform to showcase their talent." She has the crowd on their feet singing an Arabic song and appreciating their applause, tells them, "Every clap is a blessing for us singers."

The soaring confidence that both jodis, Ujjaini/ Aishwarya and Banjyotsana/Sharib

diplayed after their performance in Delhi was unmistakable. After both jodis got over a crore votes last week, this is their last chance to garner votes from Kolkattan's and viewers all over India.

Its countdown time for the finale and Lewis chats up with Uthup on how the jodis have fared and improved as the series progressed. Uthup has been following The EMET series and remarked that Ujjaini/Aishwarya were a well matched musical jodi and the chemistry between Banjyotsana/Sharib was great to watch, apart from hearing their original voices.

One would have thought that Kolkattan's would only cheer Ujjaini/Aishwarya as it was home to Ujjaini. But, they showed no favourtism to the youngest jodi and equally cheered Banjyotsana/Sharib after every performance.

Challenge 2005 winner and runner up Debojit and Vineet also perform and remember the support that they received from the state when they were the finalists in the last series. Usha Uthup once again castes her magic spell and her glorious voice accompanied by Hariharan and the jodis.

The jodis are sure fire show stoppers. They pushed the barriers of music and sang songs the audiences could enjoy. High buzzing vocal harmonies, coupled with their terrific stage presence and of course, the five Panch members who are also given the opportunity to judge the jodis, are the highlights of the show.

Director Gajendrra Siingh has been a mentor for all jodis, encouraging them when they lose heart and reprimanding them when they take their riyaaz lessons too lightly. "The response the jodis received from audiences in Delhi and Kolkatta was overwhelming. I become emotional as each series draws to a close, but the satisfaction on seeing how far the jodis have come in a span of 15 weeks is a huge high. Giving them a platform for playback singing was my aim and the fact that they have even recorded an album and are getting offers from the best composers in the industry makes it all worthwhile," says Siingh.
