Part 1

"He is a killer, Your Honor. A killer."

"A killer of two innocent lives."

"He should be hanged for his crimes sir, he should not be spared."

The booming voice of the prosecution lawyer Arjun Singhania rang out in the court room which was filled to its maximum capacity.

People from all walks of life had come to watch the Great MAAN SINGH KHURANA in the prosecution box. To see the criminal he had become. Especially the press. It was having a field day reporting about each and every moment of the court proceedings and letting the world know what was happening inside.

The lawyer continued,

"It is time to tell the story of crimes committed by Mr. Maan Singh Khurana," Prosecutor Arjun Singhania said on Tuesday morning as he launched an hour long opening statement at Mr. Maan Singh Khurana's trial for Mrs. Sameera Khurana's murder.

Arjun Singhania recalled Sameera Khurana's life as a great daughter-in-law, loving wife and a dotting bhabhi to Mr. Vicky Khurana before her November 1, 20011 disappearance. However, he quickly shifted his focus to what happened between the last photo taken of Sameera Khurana on a famous socialite birthday party on November 1 and the first photo taken of her remains on December 14."

He kept on,

"The last time anyone other than Maan saw his wife alive was by the socialite on whose birthday party Sameera Khurana had spend the entire evening meeting and greeting many known and famous faces who could be called here for testimony if the court so wishes. And that 'Your Honor' was at 11:20pm on 1 November, 2011."

Arjun Singhania's presentation laid out a sort of alternate timeline of places Maan Singh Khurana claimed his wife to be over the next month to deflect any suspicions about where his wife was, including he claimed his wife had spent in a spa resort where his wife Sameera had gone for a weight reduction program for two weeks and a week spent with some two women about whose knowhow he claimed he did not know."

And the Prosecutor lawyer alleged that, these two women did not exist.

"Your Honor, the killer should be punished by the strictest criminal law. The law states that a person who has committed a serious crime should be dealt with by a severe sentence. I don't think this man is showing any remorse or repentance'otherwise he would have spoken something. His silence and his arrogant nature tells its own story and is enough to convict him, My Lord.

Thus saying this, the lawyer moved back and went and sat down on his seat.

There was pin drop silence as everyone waited with baited breath to hear the next words of the judge.

'Does the accused have a lawyer to fight his case' the judge asked the prosecutor Mr. Arjun Singhania.

The famous criminal lawyer, Mr. D.K. Mehta stood up and passed a document to the clerk sitting below the raised dais of the judge.

"Yes, Your Honor, I, Mr. D.K. Mehta, am the defendant's lawyer. I was to represent the defendant in this court but due to some unforeseen reasons I would like to withdraw form this case. Please grant me the permission to do so." The lawyer without looking at the defendant bowed his head in front of the judge and on receiving the nod went back to his seat.

On hearing this, a small sound was exhaled by the defendant.

And the court room burst into a cacophony of sounds. Everyone started murmuring and a lot of whispering was going on when the judge thumped the hammer on the desk.

'Everyone quite please.'

He waited till there was silence in the courtroom and then resumed,

'Does the accused want to engage a lawyer on his own or should the state provide you with the defense lawyer?'

There was silence form the accused.

'Mister Maan Singh Khurana, please speak up. Would you like the state to engage a lawyer for you?'

After waiting for long when the judge had given up hope of receiving an answer there were few words uttered by the accused.

'No sir, I do not want the state to appoint a lawyer for me neither I want to take on a lawyer myself. I will accept whatever sentence is pronounced by the court and you honor willingly.'

Commotion broke out in the courtroom.

The whispers of 'if he does not engage a lawyer how can he fight his case' 'does that mean he is guilty' 'he must have surely killed that's the reason Mr. D.K. Mehta left the case' 'Mr. D.K. Mehta always wins the case and if he has backed off means he is sure of losing the case' 'The lawyer has a track record of winning 100% cases but he refused the case because he must have known the accused was the killer' and many more such hushed voices were heard around the court room.

The accused sat silently in the trial box. Head bowed, with a blank face only his eyes showed some emotion when he looked up.

1) Plz note that I have no connection to law whatsoever...so plz forgive me ...if I make any mistake in stating any procedure or any law wrongly. if there is someone who has any knowledge and would like to help I would be grateful.

2) Plz treat this as a story only...it has no connection to reality.

3) In this story the character of Maan or Geet may not be 100% white or black...it can have shades of Grey...so if u all r prepared to accept that and would like the story to move forward plz let me know...

4) I will not be writing the next part until and unless I come to know what do u all think about the story...so plz tell me whether u like it or not and do u want me to continue.
