Virman SS: Dil Ki Baat

Prologue

Its been above six months to Viren and Jeevika's wedding. Maanvi had come to stay with the Vadhera's in her summer vacations for 2 months. Everyone in the family was happy to have Maanvi staying with them for some days, except Swamini bua. But she agreed for this on Viren's request and for Jeevika's happiness, as she knew that Jeevika was missing her sister very much since marriage. Jeevika had become an integral part of their family and Viren's life. Also for her it was only a matter of 2 months. So she agreed for Maanvi' stay in the house on the condition that Maanvi will follow all the rules and regulations of Vadhera family while she was there, and will not do any stupid thing against the family's rules.

Throughout Maanvi's stay in the Vadhera house, Viraat and Maanvi's friendship had started to go to a different level. Both were happy with this new change in their undefined relationship. Somehow Maanvi had broken all the walls around Viraat in which he had imprisoned himself. He didn't realize when she became more than a friend to him, more than his Bhabhi-Ki-Behna. She became so special to him that he shared the secrets of his past with her, his failed career, his broken heart, his sorrow in loosing Dadaji's trust. And she understood him, his pain. She felt the pain when Dadaji scolded him, taunted him. And she was always there to comfort him and to make him smile with her fun loving attitude.

Viraat's friendship was very special for Maanvi. Because he was always there for her, to save her form all the troubles she cause for herself, to comfort her whenever she was sad. He cared for her the way her Di cares for her when she felt weak. Somehow Viraat had made a special place for himself in her heart. Viraat and Maanvi both were very well aware of their closeness. They knew about the feelings they had for each other. But none of them had confessed yet. Both were trying to hide their feelings from the other...

Meanwhile Maanvi's health was getting affected by her illness. And Viraat was constantly pestering her about it. But she didn't want her Di to be worried for her because of the stupid fever and coughing spells. So she decided to go for all the tests the doctor had told her to do, to avoid the worrying of her Di and the pestering of detective Viraat. She went to the Vadhera's family doctor Dr. Sippy (to whom Viraat had taken her when she had fainted at the Mata ki Chouki) for the tests without the knowledge of anyone in the family, even HER CHEP...

Part 1

It was a beautiful night full of stars. There was only one week left for Maanvi's stay at the Vadhera house, because her college was going to start after one week. Maanvi was standing on the terrace of Vadhera Mansion, near the wall with her hands on the railing. The bright light of moon was shining on her face. Usually the beautiful vision of the moonlit sky attracted her, made her happy and gave her peace. But today even that wasn't helping to soothe her, to calm her down. She was lost in thoughts of the events of past two days. She received her test reports the day before yesterday and she was completely shaken about knowing her illness. She had second stage Blood Cancer. But she regained herself as she didn't want to be the reason for everyone's sadness. She didn't want to trouble, to worry anyone about it especially her Jeevika Di. She didn't want anyone to know about her serious health condition, not even Viraat.

'Viraat' she thought sadly. She had been avoiding him since yesterday. 'How could she tell him? How could she let her Chep get affected by her health? How could she let him spoil his life because of her? How could she spoil his happiness, steal his smile??? when she knew what he had to go through in his past'. "NO"she thought firmly, 'I can't do this. I can't let Viraat know about my cancer. I have to be away from him as far as possible. And anyway I don't even know what he feels for me? And even if he has any feelings for me, I can't let him come close to me. He deserves someone better, someone whole, someone who could give him all the love back that he deserves. Not like me who don't even know how much time is left with me'.

Viraat was standing in the doorway of the terrace looking at Maanvi. She had been avoiding him from yesterday and he knew why? She was trying to hide her feelings from him. Because he knew what effect he had on her when he was close to her and he loved it. At first he was enjoying this game of ignorance, amused at how she runs away from him avoiding his gaze. But now his patience has lost. He can't stay away form her anymore now. After all she was leaving for Rishikesh after a week, so he had only one week left to be spent with her. So he decided to tell her about his love for her today and started walking towards her.

Maanvi was looking up at the sky, but she suddenly realized his presence. She looked down and whispered to herself, "Viraat". Viraat came and stood back behind her. He put his right hand on the railing at her right side and looking at her said playfully, "Hello, Jangli Billi..!!!" She turned around to look at him with a fake annoyed expression, "Chep tum yaha kya kar rahe ho?" she asked irritated. "Yeh sawal main bhi tumse puch sakta hu..! Tum yaha kya kar rahi ho?" he asked with a mischievous grin. "Kuch nahi. Main ja rahi hu." she replied angrily.

She turned to walk away but Viraat was too quick for her. He quickly placed his left hand on the railing at her left, blocking her way and locking her to the railing. They were facing each other now her head sideways, and he was very close to her. So close that she feared, if he could hear her heart racing. Slowly she turned her head to look at him. He was staring at her intently, his eyes serious. For few moments she was lost in his dark eyes. But then she remembered, that she was supposed to stay away from him and she was stern on that. "Viraat, mujhe jana hai", she said in a low voice but stubbornly. She pushed him back and started to walk away. But Viraat caught her by wrist and pulled her, so that she landed in his arms softly. He caught her by her waist as she collided with him in a smooth fluid movement. (I know its a bit dreamy, but the scene was running in my mind like this) "Itni jaldi nahi...", he whispered in her ear. "Viraat tum...", she tried to protest. "Sshh...". He placed his finger on her lips. "Pehle batao, tum kal se mujhe avoid kyu kar rahi ho?", he asked with mischief in his eyes. She didn't see that coming. "Main? Tumhe avoid kar rahi hu?? Tum pagal ho gaye ho kya chep? Main kyu tumhe avoid karne lagi??", she defended herself. "Accha?!", he asked softly while he caressed her cheek with one hand. She was startled by the touch. "Vi...Viraat", she stuttered, "Mujhe... sach me jana hai. Kuch kaam hai".

Again she tried to walk away but Viraat stopped her sliding his arms around her waist. She gasped as he pulled her towards him, and hugged her from back. "Kab tak mujhse dur bhagogi Bandariya?", he whispered in her ears, resting his chin on her shoulder. Maanvi fell silent. She just got lost in his arms. She just wanted to be like this in his warm, loving arms for the rest of her life. Viraat turned her by her shoulder, so that she was facing him. He placed his finger beneath her chin and made her to look at him. She looked into his eyes and they were brimming with passion. He snaked his arm on her waist and pulled her closer, so that their faces were just inches apart. He placed his other hand on her cheek lightly and said, "I love you Bandariya". Maanvi melted completely as she heard his words and hugged him tightly. She closed her eyes as he hugged her back. She could feel his heart beating fast. She wanted to be in his warm arms forever. Then he put his hand on her head, which brought her back to reality. Tears brewed up in her eyes.

She suddenly pulled away and turned around to hide her tears. He felt something was wrong, so he hugged her from back again, because he didn't want to loose her at any cost now. She knew that she was distracted for sometime by him and his love. But she could not let it happen again, she could not let him spoil his life for her. "Viraat chodo mujhe, koi aa jayega...", she said. "Aane do, I don't care. Jab tak tum mere saath ho, mujhe koi fark nahi padta ki koi kya sochta hai", he replied. Tears rolled down on her cheeks. "Itna pyaar karte ho mujhse?", she asked turning to him. He was a little shocked to see tears in her eyes, but he brushed them away with his hand and answered softly, "Ha, bohot pyaar karta hu". She felt overwhelmed by his love. She hated herself for the pain she was going to give him. But she knew that it was for his good. So she looked straight into his eyes and said "Nahi Viraat...Main is pyaar ke kabil nahi hu". He was shocked. She backed away and again saying in low voice, "Main is pyaar ke kabil nahi hu..." ran from there.

"MAANVI...MAANVI...", he shouted running after her trying to stop her. But she was already gone from the terrace. Viraat stood there perplexed. Her words stunned him. 'Why did she say that?', he thought 'What was going on in her mind? How could she be thinking that? How could she think that she doesn't deserve his love?'

PHEW...done.
