Amchya Nihira baddal mi kay bolu... Mazya javal shabda nahit...

(What should I say about Nihira?... I don't have words.....)

Sathi re bhool na jana mera pyar... This is the song I liked the most in whole of C2005 and I think Nihira has sung this extremely difficult song exceedingly well...close to how Asha-ji has sung it. This was the ultimate test for any singer. Just listen very carefully to Asha-ji here----

And now listen carefully to Nihira

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mrw5S_F5RIc (thanks bangboy!)

I don't think I will be exaggerating if I say Nihira is not much behind. She has phenomenal voice, and with 5-10 years of intense training I really feel she can get close to Asha-ji or even Lata-ji. What do you feel???

On the side note -- I would just love to hear those Lata-Madan gems from Nihira. ...especially lag ja gale, ke phir ye hansi raat ho na ho......It will be a great treat!

Salil,

Namaskaar. I read your post. I agree Saathire is one of the best song she sang in the C2005. But there are other outstanding songs she sang in different eposodes. "Roz shaam aati thee", "Chalka chalka", and "Bablie kee buntree hoyee". All these songs are redered with emotions and dedications. However, you are right about Saathi re. It is the most difficult song she sung.

I have not liked any other Sa Re Ga Ma or Sa re Ga ma Pa participant as much as Nihira I find her singing flawless. My personl favorite is

Kahana hi kya
With a very long mukhda and aalaps it is impossible to sing it on stage but Nihira has done it.

I would like to hear her sing

Jyoti kalash Chalke &
Aaj hum apni duaon ka asar dekhen ge

She has the talent and needs some luck

Whenever I listen to Nihira's 'Saathi Re', I get goose bumps. I have written so much about Nihira that I don't have any new words but all I can say is she is the best.

I read Taran's definition of Povaadaa. I would like to give little background of this style of songs.
PovaaDaa (not PavaDdaa) is a type of songs sung in the battlefield to raise the spirits of fighters by praising historical figures and other heros. That art started during Shivaji Maharaj times. Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had only handful youths to fight huge Mogul army. The youth he had, did not have formal weapons, training or equiptments. All they had was a desire, dedication and devotion to wrest our land back from the foreign invaders. In the battlefield the young and ill equipped fighters needed encouragement and moral booster. So, Shivaji Maharaj though Ramdas Swami started this practice by employing some Shairs who wrote and sung poems on the spot. PovaaDaa has a distinct style of singing and like Taran says, ends with jis. Those 'ji"s were echos by other singers and fighters agreeing with the poet. That art has lost its luster because of easy and westernized lifestyle.
