Tarachand, who works for the Indian Railways, is retired and has to vacate the Company quarters.

Sanchi is his eldest daughter, who wants to join the Benares University, and they decide to move to Kashi, where Tarachand has his ancestral home, which has been rented to a Lawyer. He writes to him, but the fraudulent lawyer wants to cheat the landlord, who has trusted his tenant.

When he reaches the place with all his belongings, he is not allowed to enter the house, and his belongings are put on the road, and then the police comes to evict him, and the local pandit, gives him accommodation in his house. He knew the family. His wife however is tutored by the Lawyer;s wife, and asks for 12000 rupees deposit, and Sanchi uses a subterfuge and puts her on the defense, saying that they will move out soon.

As a side show, we are shown how the ruffians of the people harass decent citizens, and how eventually, a girl will try to tame them.
