All it takes is... Gere
Visa has launched a new commercial featuring Richard Gere.

GOT THE POWER: Ranjit Barot performing at the launch of the new Visa commercial. PHOTO: ANU PUSHKARNA
Visa has launched a new Asia Pacific TV commercial, "Birds" as part of the "All It Take" brand campaign. Jodhpur in Rajasthan is the location for the filming of the commercial which features Hollywood superstar Richard Gere. The commercial reflects the imagery of India and brings together a cast and crew that is a blend of the best of the East and the West. The commercial opens with a breathtaking view at sunrise of the mystic Jawant Thada, the graceful marble cenotaph of Maharaja Jaswant Singh in Jodhpur. John Steere, Regional Director of VISA International, speaking on the occasion, said "When we began working on our new commercial we sought out the perfect celebrity and theme that would reflect our brand promise and commitment of empowerment." The Indian cast of colourful personalities - the little girl, the guide, the bird merchant - and the rustic and energetic music score come together perfectly in a dramatic enactment of the Visa brand promise. More importantly the commercial depicts a true blend of Hollywood and Bollywood. Ranjit Barot composed the earthy and rhythmic music for the commercial. The launch was marked by a musical performance by Ranjit Barot and others. The youngsters swayed to live music as the lights dimmed and the crowd trickled in braving the afternoon heat of the Capital.

EMI unveils new album from Shaan 1/19/2006 10:13:04 AM IST
After enthralling fans with 'Tanha Dil' and 'Aksar', the duo of EMI Music India and leading singer Shaan have come together for their third album, called 'Tishnagi', meaning thirst. The album has been produced and arranged by noted musician Ranjit Barot. The album is a mix of romantic ballads, rock tracks and some foot tapping dance numbers. The video of the title song has been directed by ace choreographers Bosco-Caesar and composed by Barot. Shaan has composed six of the album's nine tracks and has penned most of the songs, barring a number with Michael Learns To Rock. Barot has composed two songs, including the title track.

What's more, the new album from Shaan gives a unique opportunity to the music aficionados to make their dream of giving playback for Hindi movies come true. The offer is from none other than Tata Indicom, who is the sole sponsor of the album. All one needs to do is dial 12900, the Tata Indicom voice station and record a song in his or her voice. At the end of the contest, which will close on Feb. 28, Shaan will pick the best of the lot. The winner will be given a chance to sing in a Hindi movie. Besides the special contest, one can listen to Shaan's songs from the new album, download the ringtones, dedicate songs to friends and other loved ones and even voice chat with Shaan on 12900.

Speaking on the occasion, Shameer Tandon, General Manager, EMI Music India, said that at a time when marriages don't last two years, the tie-up between the music records company and Shaan had lasted full eight years. He also said that after getting Shaan and Blue together in 'Aksar', EMI will combine Shaan with Michael Learns To Rock in this album.

"This album is more vibrant and upbeat than my previous work 'Akar'. I am very excited about the video too where audiences will get to see a new side of me. This is my best work so far", says Shaan. "We have used live instruments played by Ranjit Barot. We have also got musicians from Belgium to play for the album".

"Our association with Shaan deepens with this new album. As part of this association, we not only bring to Tata Indicom customers an exclusive access to the new album before it hits the market, but also a unique opportunity for all the aspiring singers to have a chance of singing in a Hindi movie", said Pankaj Sethi, vice President - Content and Applications, Tata Teleservices.
