A big sorry for neglecting this thread for so long. I had been caught up with life for a while, and then the show went haywire which affected my creative brains too i guess... I had almost thought I had grown out of the story now, and was thinking of shutting this down, but somehow this update happened... I don't know how regular I will be from now, and I am at a loss where the story is moving, I guess I will just let it come on it's own. So here is the update...

Chapter 10

A Tryst With Darkness

Geet's first week in Marvel had passed pretty fast with hardly any notable events. Pari and Adi had made sure that she was introduced to each and every one in the office on the very first day itself. She had found that everyone was quite very warm and cordial to her, and hence she found herself adjusting to her new work surroundings very quickly. But if she had had to describe her next two weeks there in a word, she thought she would go for 'hectic'. She was put on training under Ms. Sasha, the chief engineer along with a bunch of few other trainees from the engineering and architecture sections. First, she had only to review the designs prepared by the trainee architects and make any necessary changes in them as well as to estimate the cost of the projects in detail. But soon enough, she found herself having to shuttle herself between office and work sites. Yes, it was quite exhausting, but still she loved it. It made her feel closer to her dream than she ever was. Though she knew she still had a long way to go before she reached there.

She hadn't met Maan ever since that fateful incident on her first day in office. She was still only a trainee, and did not have much chances of meeting the chairman of the company yet. And from what she had gathered from Pari, Maan sir was out on one of his business tours and wouldn't be back until the next day. She wasn't particularly excited about this-- the office would be back to it's usual tensed atmosphere once the boss was back. She had been feeling quite comfortable in this more relaxed state of the office, and didn't particularly look forward to this change in atmosphere. Nor did she look forward to meeting the man himself much- although he hadn't been really hard on her that day, she still felt intimidated by the mere thought of the person whom Pari had described to be a very strict and easily angered boss.

It was her last day of training that day. She had worked on a very important project that day and her final designs were now at Ms. Sasha's table for approval. She really hoped her designs got approved- they would determine her future in Marvel, and Sasha ma'am had told that she would make an important announcement the next day. She and her fellow trainees were very much curious and nervous about this new announcement that, according to Sasha ma'am could alter the course of their career in the Marvel.

It had been quite late when Geet had left the office that night. Pari had already left early- since the boss wasn't around, there wasn't really much for her to do apart from her usual secretarial works. There weren't any company cabs available too, and that left her to walk to the metro station by herself. It was only a ten minutes walk and Geet was, by now quite familiar with the roads. Though she had thought that she would never get used to the metro trains that ran from time to time overhead, she could see why the local people loved them. It was a real boon for the working class's daily travel requirements although she personally did not like the crowd in them very much.

She checked her purse for her metro smart-card before starting to walk towards the station. The weather was starting to get a little chilly in Delhi, now that the winter was at the threshold. She shivered a little as she looked up at the sky. The sky was getting murkier day by day what with all the street lights and other city lights that essentially came with development. Geet missed the dark starry nights that she used to enjoy at the terrace of her home with Ma and chotu- she had vague memories of Ma explaining about the planets and solar system to them. It seemed very far away in time now. Indeed it was, she had been only a little six year old at the time, and the practise had stopped not much later, ever since chotu had gone missing. She sighed, forcing herself away from those thoughts- she didn't think she could handle them just then. She thought about the things she had to do once she got back home. She made a mental note to call Vicky or Simran that night. She hadn't talked to them properly in two weeks owing to her busy schedule, and she was pretty sure Simran was quite upset with her because of that.

Geet had still been lost in thoughts when she took the right turn that led to the station. She hadn't known that someone had been following her throughout the way from the office, nor had she known it when the person had crept from behind her and covered her face with a piece of cloth. Shock, surprise and a faint sweet odour was what she felt last before the darkness of the night took hold of her as a whole.
