if i feel from inside that my outfit is inappropriate/looking shabby, i'd try to deviate other's attention by flaunting my expensive wrist-watch/clutch-bag/shoes.

she is doing the same; flaunting her back as she knows no one wants to see her elegantly overdone visage. 😵
