Part 14 :

Mayank got up in the wee hours of the morning suddenly glancing at Nupur's hand in his and Varun missing. As he looked around the room, he saw Varun was trying to stably stand on the thin window sill looking outside. He wondered what was he doing there so early in the morning. He looked back at Nupur and her hand in his and trying to help himself but failing to do so, he remembered innumerable moments like those where there was no barrier of thoughts or words or situation between them like it now asked him to leave her hand and he did it and left the bed moving towards Varun. Life was being cruel or was he being so to himself or was it her? Well being honest, he knew it was all of it!

He went upto Varun and asked supporting him, keeping his hand on his back and a bit in amusement and a bit concerned he asked, "Varun, what ARE you doing here at this hour?"

Varun looked at him and sensing his support left his weight on Mayank now being sure that he won't let him fall. He smiled and replied, "Dad, my teacher had told me that the morning sun-rays is very good for health during sunrise and it's a golden ray of hope for a good day's start. Dad is it golden?"Varun knew he must have seen the sunrays in the morning too but he was not sure if it indeed was golden in colour!

The sun had not even risen still.

Mayank laughed at the way he asked it. He remembered his and Nupur's talks on weathers. Nupur usually loved demonstrating how beautiful the weather around felt. Especially when they have had gone for various holidays to various places having completely different atmosphere. He knew she loved the rains and snowfalls the most while he loved the sun, he always said. Even listening to her words about those weathers, made him see those in a completely different light. Nupur always complained"You are just saying this because you want to dis-agree with me. I know you. You smile the most when in rain and snowfalls too"

Mayank explained, "That's only a try to match your more number of smile!"

Nupur replied back with a straight face, "Mr. Flirt, no need to try to flatter me here! That wouldn't change the truth and my opinion" she huffed.

Mayank used to laugh at how she under-rated his love for her. It was sort of true. He had slowly come to love those weathers with her by his side. And she used to ask about what exactly made the sun so special?

They argued over the cold and the warmth, the freshness and the hopes, the soothing and the piercing, the drenching one and the one to be soaked, the golden sunrays and the the silver sparkling rain drops as were the weathers themselves.

Same goes for all the other topics of discussion. Not everytime though.

They had all types of discussions usually. But though they loved to argue, they usually had it cussioned with some beautiful moments trying to appease the other, of ending it in romantic moments, of covering up later by doing something special for the other or sometimes just letting it be for sometimes you just wouldn't let arguments take over at all.

Even so, there was no need or urgency to win over the situation anyday by anyone. It was plain arguments with each other that they enjoyed, plainly knowing more about each other, about things which they themselves didn't see and the other made them see it through their vision of the world.

The best part was they never had a hitch before they argued over anything and everything. If only they had understood each other as easily last time too...

Coming back to present, he felt excited to see Varun always ready with random questions, a trait he had too in his childhood but was later subsided. He felt excited to see Varun having a shade of it.

Mayank wanted Varun to be just the same as he could have estimated himself to be if only all had gone well with him when he was as young as Varun - arguing and asking loads so that he learnt things himself. Intelligence was closely related to clarity of thoughts and things.

Varun had an urge to explore the world all the more. Mayank felt so good when he saw Varun all the time trying to learn something new and get to know things taking extra efforts for it.

Mayank excitedly replied back, "Yes! The morning sunrays are golden and if you see it clearly then you'll notice that when it enters yor room Varun, it looks like it's a spotlight. So my son is in God's spotlight! How lucky that is to be!"

Varun looked as excited and asked, "Really Dad? Like the one we have in football matches? Spotlight? " Varun had understood his analogy quite right but Mayank was not sure if he yet knew that what he was referring to was a flood light. Mayank smiled and said, "Yes that's the spotlight I was comparing it to"

Varun said,"Dad you know I play football very well" then thinking if he'll give it the required credibility he added, "My Sports Activity Sir told me"

Mayank felt proud. Though it was just a small achievement but still, didn't achievements start small at this early a stage?

Varun looked at Mayank's smile and felt contended. His Mom and Dad both supported his football and he wanted to declare them as world's best parents only now. He asked his Dad if he could get a football for himself so that he could practice even at home and marked in his mind to show them how good he was at it. Mayank affirmed his concern without a single flinch of thoughts. Varun hugged him still standing on the window sill supported by his Dad. Mayank laughed at his reaction and gave him a pat on his back and said, "So Champ your Golden Sun is just starting to shine bright" and showed him how the orange sun was slowly rising high and how its rays were spreading in the room.

Mayank said, "See its rays won't scorch you in the morning. It much colder than the afternoon ones. Your teacher was right, its good to soak it in"

Varun asked randomly, "Dad, Mom will like it too?" He asked as if even for Nupur it must be as new a thing as for him.

Mayank smiled and nodded in a 'no' and with a little mischievious smile he moved a little away from the window, now holding Varun in his arms too and letting the sunrays pass through to Nupur he told Varun, "Now see how your Mom will twitch her nose and wake up" He knew she would wake up angry as if it was Sun's mistake that it rose.

In several minutes, Nupur did exactly the way Mayank had told Varun and she woke up knitting her eye-brows and preparing herself up to glare at the sun. Varun burst out laughing followed by Mayank and Nupur was distracted enough to open her eyes and sit up to look at what was so funny in the morning?

She looked at them confused and Varun laughed more along with Mayank.

Nupur was so happy to see them laugh like that but was completely surprised at Mayank's behavior and looked at him in a confused questioned way automatically.

Mayank realized how he had completely forgotten the present for a moment. He was almost shocked at his own reaction. He had decided that his resolution won't break then why was he letting it break? He was not supposed to go weak!

Nupur regretted her glance as she saw mayank's smile fade away. She yearned for it. Why didn't he feel like smiling for her or at her or with her as he always did earlier? She could almost cry if she had not seen worse earlier. Keeping a hopeless hope at stake, she repeated to herself 'atleast he smiled and laughed like that after so long. It can only get better!'

Varun explained all his talks going up to Nupur while Nupur tried to concentrate completely on his words and keep her emerging feelings aside. Mayank was just facing the sun and lost in thoughts.

Nupur was waiting for Mayank to come home since evening. He came late, around 11 PM, but he excitement was still as intact as it must be when she first got the news. Mayank entered the room and Nupur sprang up and shouted at the highest pitch of her voice, "MAYANK!!!!!!!!!!!"

Mayank looked at her astonished a little and replied back laughing, "Nupur we are in the same room now, why are you shrieking?"

Nupur smiled at him and ran to his arms and hugged him tight not being able to control her tears while she just stayed that way while Mayank held her back with love.

It was a minute, two, three...Nupur wouldn't budge. Mayank all of a sudden started to get worried. Was there something wrong that she needed to feel his presence so much. Pulling back he saw Nupur's tears but an unmissable blissful smile which could challenge every single worry out of him.

He wiped her tears and pulling her back in hug and getting all the more cozy he sighed and whispered, "Nupur sometimes your moods are completely unassuming. What happened today? Do I look more handsome than Brad Pitt to you suddenly? Or did you see a bad dream? Or did you see someone meet a bad accident and took it emotionally? Or is it just that you realized how I feel all the time to want to keep you in my arms as and when I can?"

Nupur laughed out and pulling out said, "Easy Mr you don't want to spoil all the fun! By the way, that Brad Pitt thingy...umm...lets just put that on hold. I'll think over it sometime later" and laughed.

Mayank looked at her confused and amused.Fun???

Nupur laughed again at his expressions. Ya, she couldn't stop smiling today!

She took his hand and placed it on her stomach and said, "Mayank, can you..." she fumbled to announce the BIG news. "Mayank, can you feel your baby?"

Mayank's expressions changed from confused still to lost for a moment to think to final happy realization...Nupur giggled and put her forehead on his while he laughed too and this time matching Nupur's tears. He was speechless.

Nupur cupped his face while he looked deep in her eyes and then hugged her tight and his Baby together this time trying to feel like a father already.

He pulled out and kissed her while he again laughed and she did too and said, "Thanks Nupur, Thanks!"

Tears, smiles, laughter, promises, virtues, hopes and a feeling of bliss marked the beginning of a new start in their life.
