Chapter 3

"What is wrong with it?" Mayank asked." Didn't you say it was going to be boring there?"

"I did-"Samrat was still trying to get Mayank's point.

"Think about it, we are going to be bored there, while she enjoys her summer here."

"You are right" Samrat said in a low tone after thinking it over.

B-I-N-G-O! When have Mayank's reversed psychology not worked on Samrat?

"So?" Mayank said patiently.

"She will come with us, and I will make sure she has the most insipid summer ever. It is all because of her I have to go there first place, so how could I let her have fun here. Thanks a lot Mayank. Thanks for telling me this; I would have never thought about it."

"What are best friends for?" Mayank knew this was going to be the best summer. He would end Samrat's hatred towards her. He really didn't know if the word was "hatred" that Samrat felt for Nupur, because he was still confused to what exactly Samrat felt for her. But whatever it was, he will make him realize that she nice person; not only from the outside but also from the inside.

"Now I have to go home, and ask my mom if I could go. But don't worry, she will say yes. You know my mom; she always listens to me and gives me everything I want."

"Hmm I know, bye"

"Bye."

He went outside by and stood by the oak tree that casted its tremendous shadows. Looking up, he saw Nupur's window still opened, but she wasn't there. He sighed, was his heart willing to see her there? Maybe he should give up trying to get Samrat's feelings toward her, because he could not even understand his. Shaking his head he went on his bike, while his eyes were still looking forward to see her sight. Finally after standing there for a long period of time, he gave up and left.

Reaching home, he asked his mom if he could go to Shimla with Samrat, and she indeed said yes. What would he do there without Samrat, his best friend, the entire summer? She packed his clothes and other necessary things for him in the night, and left his room for she thought he was asleep. But sleep was far in distance to him. He was wide awake. There were just too many thoughts in his head which made him not once think about sleep. He had called Samrat and asked if Nupur was going to come with them tomorrow, and he said yes. "She had to," he said, "I told mom I wouldn't go there, if she didn't come along. So she finally agreed." Mayank could barely wait for the next day, was he really going to spend his summer with a girl he has always dreamed to say a single word to? This excitement was rousing in him somewhere, and he just could not stop thinking. What would he say to her? As minutes ticked by, he didn't even realize when he fell asleep putting his thoughts into a beautiful dream.

The next morning, he woke up earlier than the alarm. He got ready, and went with his driver to the train. He called Samrat who was still getting ready, and waited there for him until he arrived with her. His one look at her was enough for him to get lost in her. She looked so beautiful, so innocent. Her face was shining by the mornings sun rays, and her eyes, they were so- majestic. She gave him a slight smile, and he shyly smiled back. Just when she was going to say something, Samrat came in the middle.

"We are getting late."

He nodded and they went inside. As the train started, Mayank stared at Nupur who was sitting opposite to him. She felt uncomfortable by his constant glares, and sensing that he stopped. Samrat and Mayank talked for a long time, while Nupur just sat watching out the window. At times, Mayank would stare at her, and that would bother Samrat. After some time, Samrat got irritated and went outside telling them that he will come back soon. He didn't come back for a long time, and sitting alone with Nupur, well it was awkward. He wanted to say so much to her, but did not know where to begin. She looked pretty busy writing something in a book, and he was not going to bother her. He fought with himself on whether he should say something to her or not, and for the first time he let his heart win the battle.

"Hi, myself Mayank."

"I know," giving him a friendly smile she added, "You are my brother's best friend for such a long time, I think I have got to know that."

"Oh." What else was there to say?

"What are you writing?"

"Oh nothing, just a dairy."

"Oh."

He wondered if she wrote something about him. How badly he wanted to read it and see.

"Samrat hasn't come back for a long time."

"Yes."

"Um, I am going to go look for him."

She looked at him and only smiled. And he got up closing the door and being angry at himself. He should have said something more to her. Yesterday he was thinking of a huge list of things to say to her, but now when she was right there in front of him, he couldn't think of a single thing. He walked around the train aisle, and that is when he saw something he was not expecting.

Precap-

"Are you crazy? What do you think you were doing?" Mayank wanted an explanation.

"Mayank please don't tell anyone. Please."

It was hard for Mayank to believe what he was actually seeing.

"It's so peaceful out here. This is the most beautiful sight." Nupur said looking at the birds flying by the snow-topped mountains in the ice-blue sky.

Mayank looked at the scenery, it was not beautiful like Nupur described it. She was wrong; this could not be the most beautiful sight, because the most beautiful sight was standing right next to him.

"Sometimes I wish we could stop some moment so we could paint a picture of it in our memories. The brighter our pictures are, the more easily we could get hold of that moment. So later if we are looking for moments like that to occur again, we could find them in those pictures." Mayank could see pain in her eyes. But what was she talking about? What moment?

The chilly wind made her shiver and just when he was about he was going to offer her his jacket, she threw a snow-ball on him, running away, laughing. This was the first time he saw her laughing, and he understood what she said. If Mayank were to stop a moment, it would be this one. And he would paint it very bright; brighter than any light could ever be.
