"Aishwarya Rai Is a Failed Actress" Claims Kashmiri Media
Aishwarya Rai was the focus of hateful criticism by a Kashmiri media organization today, which labelled her a "failed actress" and derided her as the center of media attention due to the birth of her first child.
In a Kashmir Digest editorial called "Justice Katju and Indian Media" the lopsided focus of the Indian media is lambasted, and rightly so. The author, Inam ul Rehman, points out that the Indian media ignores its audience and plays to the wealthy, urban minority, ignoring news which would be of importance to anyone outside that group. The editorial is in response to the critical remarks about the Indian media made by Justice Katju.
While the spirit of the editorial is correct the author includes cruel language about Aishwarya Rai and the amount of media attention she received in the previous month. Labelling Aishwarya Rai Bachchan a "failed Bollywood actress" is ludicrous considering her roles in some of the industry's most beloved films. Using her as an example was a rude and uncalled-for way to draw attention to what would likely have been an ignored editorial. It is in no way Aishwarya Rai's fault that the media was interested in her pregnancy, and it's unfair to call her names because of it.
