December gets overcrowded
December is going to be full of big releases in Tamil, Hindi, English,Telugu and Malayalam.
Chennai and Bangalore are the only cities in India which have simultaneous releases of all the five languages.
In Chennai city, multiplexes and single screens are finding it very difficult to accommodate December releases. Every week there is a big movie jostling for screens. There is tremendous pressure for bigger screens in multiplexes, and single screens cannot stop movies which are doing well to accommodate bigger releases.
Take a look at December schedule which is making theatre managers see red. On December 1, Sasikumar's Samuthirakani directed Poraali will be releasing with Vidya Balan's highly hyped Dirty Picture which is releasing big in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
A week later, STR's eagerly awaited Dharani directed Dabangg remake Osthi, is releasing on December 8. A day later Pawan Kalyan's Vishnuvardhan directed Panjaa is planning to release in 14 Chennai screens.
December 16 will see Tom Cruise's action packed Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol which is releasing in 150 oddscreens in TN along with its dubbed version.
Prashanth's comeback vehicle Mambatiyaan is also due for release. The same Friday will see two big Malayalam films releasing, Mammootty's Venicile Vyapari and Mohanlal's Priyadarsan directed Arabiyum Ottakavum P Madhavan Nairum.
Christmas weekend on December 23, will see a big clash between Vikram's Suseenthiran directed Rajapattai and Shah Rukh Khan's Don 2.
Both the films are releasing huge. Nagarjuna's Telugu entertainer Rajanna is also releasing in Chennai, the same day.
The question being asked in the trade is how so many biggies which have its own audiences and fan base get the screens, especially in lucrative Chennai market?
