So a certain post in the forum by reachanupama got my mind ticking about the world of medicine and its portrayal in KTLK. To be honest, whenever I see a show which has the term "medical backdrop" / "backdrop of a hospital setting" in its description, it generally means that initially the medical aspect will remain in the BACKground and as soon as the love track begins it will be DROPped like a hot potato. Don't know if it applies to KTLK yet but let's see what amazing stuff about the medical world has been shown to date...
Meet Dr. Ashutosh, he is the head of Dr. Kotnis General Hospital and yes, he looks too damn good for his age. Tee hee! 😃
...And yes, this is how it works at Dr. Kotnis General Hospital, we don't give the newbies an introduction to the hospital and internship, neither do we give them a round of the hospital, nor do we give them a description of what their job will be like on a daily basis or how the hospital functions, we just chuck scans and files at them and expect them to answer based on whatever they have rattafied over the years.
Yes, Dr. Ashutosh and his hospital are awesome like that...😛
Oh and in all this awesomeness, we also pick the intern behaving the weirdest and ask them to assist in a critical surgery where the smallest mistake could lead to a patient losing their eyesight...We told you we're AWESOME like that...😎
So prior to surgery when doctors probably discuss something important related to the operation, we see Dr. Mallika doing her most favourite thing in the world...i.e. repeating her 'barah saal' tirade like a broken tape recorder.
Barah saal ki dosti, barah saal ka pyaar, along with barah saal ki nagging aur barah saal ki thick headedness.
Only if Ms. Barah Saal had put in so much energy and effort towards her profession, she would probably be running Dr. Kotnis General Hospital instead of Dr. Ashutosh...What say?
So, going into the surgery, we see the new weird intern just standing and gawking like she's watching an episode of 'RIpley's Believe It or Not"...😆 Dr. Ashutosh meanwhile finishes the surgery in about 2 minutes and then makes a bizarre statement:
"I think humne patient ki eyesight bacha lee".
Yup, because you definitely cannot wait till the patient becomes conscious and conduct tests to evaluate their eyesight in order to make such an insightful declaration...😛
So, Dr. Nidhi pleads, begs, cries about not wanting to be a doctor and her absolutely zilch interest in the profession to Dr. Ashutosh and as a return gift for this confession, he later gives her the responsibility of the children's ward.
A ward which should essentially have only the most sensible, responsible, efficient and knowledgeable doctors around, because it deals with more young, vulnerable and fragile patients is considered to be some kind of "monster land" in the hospital and is given away to Dr. Nidhi without a seconds thought. Great work Dr. Ashutosh...just mind blowing...👍🏼
This, my friends is the surgery of the millennium, the patient has complications and requires a hysterectomy and lo and behold Dr. Ashutosh completes the surgery in a spectacular ...30 seconds. Even Maggi Noodles takes longer to be cooked ... Howzzat? 😆
LOL @ "Welcome to life baby" 😆. Apparently baby is so happy about coming to life that it doesn't move at all while crying..🤣
Ladies and gentlemen, this is what a 2 month premature baby looks like according to the show. In the real world such a baby would be much smaller in size and struggling to breathe due to the lungs not being fully developed but I guess after the 30 second surgery Dr. Ashutosh infused some of his super powers into the baby which transformed it into a 3 month old who is happily kicking away to glory in a glass box.
Sigh...somewhere all the people in the world who work in the Neonatal ward are cringing simultaneously...😵
Rukawat ke liye khed hai...
It's time for some KBC...😃
Aur aapka agla sawaal Rs.5,000,000,000 ke liye yeh hai..
What does Dr. Ashutosh specialise in?
a) Ophthalmology..."I think humne patient ki eyesight bacha lee"...😎
b) Gynaecology ..."Welcome to life baby"...😆
c) Paediatrics ... Dr. Hard Stone who gives away responsibility of children's ward like it's some candy...
d) He's so totally awesomesauce that he is everything combined in one and can treat anyone and anything. He can even stop Global Warming God dammit! 😡
Here comes my most favourite scene of the entire show. Internal head injury surgery that lasts... 10 SECONDS. GENIUS...Just pure GENIUS! 👏
Apart from the fact that every progressive surgery in the show gets shorter we need to applaud Dr. Ashutosh who appears to have medical powers like no one else. Next time round Dr. Ashutosh will probably have to just STARE at the patient to treat them...😆
I say we bestow Dr. Ashutosh with the title of Doctor. One ' The one who can carry out a surgery in the time it takes to put a bandaid over a cut...🤣
And why o why is an ex-intern loitering around in the OT?
According to Dr. One "Jis tarah se usne Shahenshah ki treatment ki thi, she deserved to be there"
Oh totally, she ran around the ward chasing the kid when he was suffering from Meningitis and then forgot to give him the injection that put his life in serious danger...absolutely fantabulous treatment it was sir jee 👍🏼
And they left the best scene until most recently. Instead of evaluating interns based on either clinical interviews or the way they examine and diagnose a patient or some other form of assessing their medical knowledge we see Dr. Mallika inventing a hatke examination. I bet this is the checklist she used when planning the exam.
Evaluation test for Dr. Nidhi that can:
a) put the life of a child in serious danger if I don't intervene on time - CHECK
b) cause me to lose my job as well as my medical license - CHECK
c) maybe land me some time in jail too - CHECK
d) also put Janaki's job/livelihood on the firing line - CHECK
e) malign the hospitals image extensively - CHECK
Damn, wouldn't you love for your child to be in the care of such a senior doctor?...😃
PS. I know this show is by no means a way of educating anyone regarding the medical field and to a large extent, the portrayal of a hospital has been fairly decent, even though not completely accurate. Still, no harm in pin pointing some of the mind boggling aspects of the medical field KTLK style :P
PPS. Even though it's not even faintly amusing, this post goes out to shamil who motivated me enough to bother making a post :)
