'Arohi! As far as I knew you never talked to any unknown person on the net.' 'I know I don't understand it either. It's just that we connected with each other the very first time. Probably it was just meant to be. What do you think Shefali?' I looked up to see her expression. It clearly read duh!. But I had faith in this. I knew the way we connect with each other was something different. No two persons at the corner of the country would fall for each other in real life. Such stories don't exist. Or do they..?!
I still remember our first exchange of words. A mere hi! Turned out into a full fledge conversation. Random discussions turned out towards personal lives. We knew we had fallen for each other, but I guess I was too proud to accept it first. Why not, boys should take the first step always right..?! ;-) so I waited till he said it. And he did. It was not just a simple I love you. It was a promise. A promise that he'd always be there for me and that he'd treat me like a princess. The letter got tears into my eyes. Tears of happiness. I was about to answer back my reply when I suddenly realized I shouldn't do this. I probably am not the perfect one for him. He deserves much better than this. Much better than me. Flashes of my past started going in my mind. By the end of it I had made up my mind to move out of his life. 'Selfish!' that's what Shefali had called me. Whatever it may be but I couldn't torture his life with my past. Arjun was way too special for that. But fate had a big punishment in store for me. I fell ill that very day. A week passed I was still ill. I did talk to Arjun almost everyday, trying to control my emotions. Trying to stay away from him. Trying to prove Shefali that I wasn't being selfish. When I didn't chat with him for a long time he called me and call it my illness or the love in his voice, I gave in. His voice was full of love trying to bring out the promise he had told me about.
Our relationship grew with time. We got used to each other's presence. We got comfortable with each other. Infact, I could not sleep without talking to him anymore. Weird, I know. But I guess such love stories do exist. 'Arohi, I have college tomorrow, starts at 8 will be back by 5.' Aaahhh holidays were over! This was bound to come. 'Arjun… what will I do without you for so long?' I asked him childishly. He kissed me on the phone. 'I wish I could see you now. That childish voice of yours is the best thing about you.' I had found my secret weapon now! Days passed, months passed. 'Arohi I'm coming down to your city. We can finally meet each other now.' And then my happiness knew no bounds. I still remember that day well, my heart was pounding right from the morning. What if we don't get comfortable with each other? What if the awkwardness that I feel with strangers strike up? What if we don't connect in person? But all my worries were put to an end when we met each other. I saw him for the first time and I fell in love with him all over again. His chivalrousness, his behavior, showed how much he cared about me. We got very comfortable with each other in person as well. In fact we seemed to be like some long lost buddies. My best friend. 'Arohi, lets go shopping.' 'yay..! Finally I wanted to buy a shirt for you but you know I hardly knew your size. So, lets buy it now.' 'noo. This shopping is just for you. No need to shop for me.' I looked at him confused. He caught my face in his hands and caressed my cheeks. 'Sweetheart I am supposed to pamper my girl. Come on now!' ever sentence that he says is special for me. Because in every sentence there is that hidden promise of treating me like a princess. I reached home very late that night. My Arjun was more worried about my safety than I was. And then came the rule. I will not come a long way to meet him, he will come down nearby. 'you are my baby dear! I should be the one taking care of you.'
So I loved him when I hadn't met him. I loved him when I met him. He became my bestest friend and I loved him. Some love stories are more than the usual regular ones. I never knew I was lucky enough to fall into one of these types. Two different people. From two corners of the country. Brought together by just one emotion. Love. Love can conquer all. It was time for Arjun to head back home. I couldn't digest the fact that he'd be gone now. I'd miss that hug of his. I'd miss that smile of his. I'd miss him. 'Arjun, I love you very much. Come what may, always remember that' he looked at me confused but smiled as he saw tears starting in my eyes. 'I love you too my baby. Forever.' He kissed my eyes, bringing a smile on my lips. Nothing's changed. We still talk on the phone. We still miss each other. We still wait for the day when he'd say 'Arohi, I'm coming down to your city.' One thing has changed. Our love for each other. It has grown and it keeps on growing day by day.
So, love can happen anytime, anywhere you just need to have faith in it.
