Why only love stories?

This is a question that has always been on my mind. It's not as if I'm against love stories or something, but I prefer other relationships over this. So, I can't understand why there are so many takers for it! Take the highest ranked soaps or the highest ranked actors for instance. They are all love stories or actors playing the lead in a love story. The gushing is endless and not to forget the endless number of VMs, siggies and FFs😕 And viewers look for a love story even if the soap is not one😕
Then the bollywood movies, 90% of them are love stories and so are the songs.
Not to mention the countless number of romance novels sold every year. Women as old as 50 years buy M&Bs😕 I read somewhere that romance is the most sold genre.
Why is it so? It's almost as if no other relationship is important 😲 Or is that one tends to take the other relationships in life for granted?!

Yes most relationships are there by default. The relationship with another person (spouse etc) is a new one and therefore it is where all the focus is and hence subject of movies, songs etc.

Harry Potter is not a love story but one of Adventure.
It was done very well.
Also action movies do well, but always there is a bit of romance added in to make it more interesting too. Even Avatar is love and action.

@bold- Exactly! I don't mean that no other genere does well, but even in an action movie there happens to be romance, whether needed or not! It puzzles me 😆

😆 I like your analysis! But in a way, even the relationship of a spouse is there by default😆 Everybody gets married, sooner or later. Friends also happen to be "new relationships" and so do children. But nobody gushes over friends or children. Why?!

Well all relationships are there by default but the place of spouse is usually the one that is vacant for a long time lol. Then you will see that there we have an element of choice as well unlike parents, siblings, children. Romance or no romance is a factore. Then there are variations like same gender couples i.e. G and L, hence KaJo (Karan Johar) movies like dostana. All this makes it an important topic in people's life and therefore the movies, dramas, songs etc.
Only friends is other such relationship where we make a choice and you will notice movies on that subject. However most have many friends and you dont live with them (excluding the live ins) and therefore not as important. In marriage you live with that person for rest of life
Hope I explained my point. ok i am not going to say more. lol. However nice topic.

Humans need love to carry on in life. We are a sentimental bunch.

OP is misinformed. In Bollywood, lots of movies which do not have "love" as the primary flavor, fare very well at the box office. Examples - Sholay, 3 Idiots, Taare Zameen Par, Lagaan, Gadar.. oh Gosh! The list is endless.
So, no, per the title of this thread, "only love stories" do not work in India or elsewhere.

3 idiots, Lagaan, sholay and Gadar had a love story in them. Even if it was not the main plot, it was there.

Most of the public that watch the or read romance stories. They like to read or watch love stories because its what people want. For example girls. Girls love romantic movies/books and then lose themselves into the thoughts of their dream boys.People like to cry over love and wish for love they might have or might not have. Its just human psychology that they like to watch about true love stories and then wish for it.

I hope my blabber makes sense...lol
