We never tire of these questions right :P the CVs are keeping us at arm's length from his past and that probably holds the key to all these questions. His past is what makes him behave in this manner, if we think of that 1/5th of a sec flashback clip he actually seems like a happy child. Then what made him the ASR that he is today.
Status and money, like u said is a very repugnant thought to associate him with...so we shall not tread down that lane :D…what I think is something happ in his past that makes him wary of being swindled…but I will not say its something that makes him stay away from khushi. Hes not like mami, remember he didn't think twice before buying a whole lot of pigeons for one unknown child just cos she was crying. So status and money doesn't figure highest on his list. Though he keeps using it in his rakshas mode to insult her (again only words uppar se acc to me..cos the man in the very next frame won't hesitate to foot her entire hosp bill !! Tres complicated)
ASR is against the idea of love; he doesn't want to be in a position where his entire existence revolves around one person. He had made this statement to anjali, that the day he finds himself in front of a woman who manages to shake his world, he'll bolt in the opposite direction. His greatest fear is being vulnerable…he allows only anjali that luxury of seeing him in a state that doesn't go out away from his exterior persona. He unwittingly allowed khushi see that side of him, he showed care, tenderness, love all the emotions he swore he'd never have time for. This is what makes him go away from khushi, she evokes such a strong reaction in him that he feels hes going down the alley where the only outcome will be extreme hurt (connecting to a situation similar to his past). He picks a different kind of hurt instead, he inflicts hurt on her and himself as part of this internal battle. For now I think he equates love as a sign of being weak, and while he doesn't stop anjali from believing in such things he definitely doesn't want to go there.
Coming to La, their entire relationship earlier was I guess more of a person with benefits kinds. She was happy being his girlfriend, he used her for whatever reason and then later for taking his family off his back. I doubt she sparks any kind of emotion in him, not in the slightest…so he feels safe. Its as good as a business deal, hes laid the cards straight…she'll get all she wants but not an expression of love. He chose to sprint into the marriage announcement only cos of khushi, u'll notice the moment she went from the scene he yells at his family for moving at blitzkrieg speed in deciding a wedding date. His defense mechanism kicked in big time, hes being made aware of his mistakes in every opportunity where he sees the decision is affecting him so badly (reason being he'll be away from her). It's the battle between Arnav and ASR. ASR has a strong griphold, but as the plot unfolds we'll see who'll win.
Shyamoo, yes hes the biggest blot on this screenplay. He is also part of that elusive unknown past !!
Hopefully as they come around peeling the layers as to what happ to this family we'll know why the boy transformed into the beast.
P.S : I dunno if some of these points have been repeated, cos I didn't read the other replies. If yes, then sorry for that J. Great post as usual sush.
