Hello, is anyone reading this forum any more? Whatever, I'll start this new topic b'cos it's one that I've seen often come up in these serials. It's about the reactions whenever somebody doesn't choose to stay in a joint family.
In most of the serials I've seen, the villains are shown as wanting, or willing to secede from the joint family and live separately elsewhere, and when they do, everyone, from the head of the family to the mahaan bahu, react like they are proposing a homicide. So it was today in the serial, where Chandan's father (didn't get his name) demanded that the property be divided, and Santosh was bawling like an idiot, while Jai's father & grandfather were disgusted enough and signed off on it. Sarika started wishing that Jai was here, so that he could reverse it.
Really? Given the excrement Sarika has gone through (and Shikha too), division is actually the best solution. In fact, even better would have been Chandan's father moving into another house w/ Vidya & Shikha, and leaving the rest there, so that Sarika would have more freedom to have her kitty parties since Santosh & Dadi won't be around, and Vidya too is unlikely to object, if requested. Actually, Jai's dad should have told his brother to take the entire melawat masala business, since Chandan had destroyed whatever reputation it had. Also, once this happened, Sarika could study peacefully w/o Shikha playing tricks on her, Garima should stay away from them, and if Santosh is too overbearing, Jai too should move out w/ Sarika (maybe to the college hostel) since he's now earning as well. If his parents & grandparents need his income, he can support them.
Given the environment of this very dysfunctional family, the above plan from Jai's uncle would actually be a good solution for everyone. But instead, that stupid dadi has a meltdown and is now paralyzed, while Santosh is getting a hemorrhage. Sarika, instead of using her brains and thinking about the positives, is begging Mahadev to prevent a partition of the house. But Sarika, once Shikha is out of this house as a result of partition, you'll be far better off, and needn't fear her backbiting.
I'm also glad that the masala business is practically cooked (manner of speaking), given what Chandan did, so now, the Poddars would need to find a new line of work. It'll be funny if they end up depending on whatever Jai earns, finding that not enough, and having to let Sarika and Vidya work. Maybe Shikha too could get a job w/ something she likes doing. Since Santosh is a gawar who only knows how to waste money, I'm not expecting anything from her.
Anyway, here's to hoping that the partition works, at least until Santosh grows some brains and stops being such a prick.
