I still don't agree.

Aishwarya's character was an integral part of the story. She actually had a substantial role and enjoyed a very good amount of screen-time. Plus with the entire film revolving around her character, she even appears throughout the film, instead of in bits and pieces. And she had scope for romance and showing varied emotions. Rape attempts, being abducted, seducing a humanoid robot, romancing her boyfriend... her character was anything but uni-dimensional. Heck, she even pulled off acting out a 22 year old college student convincingly at 37. And romancing a man 30 years older than her and actually being praised for their chemistry! Unlike other heroines, who come and disappear in a wink of an eye, Aishwarya actually shined throughout the film, Like Filmigirl said "Her performance was so full of life. Aishwarya not only looked healthy and glowing but she had such fun in her attitude through the whole film. She practically sparkled right off of the screen and into the aisles."
Comparitively Kareena didn't have much to do in Ra.One. I didn't see any differences in the way she potrayed her role. The only time she had something to do in the film was between her husband's passing away and before G.One entered. And of course, the few seconds when she is possessed by Ra.One. I didn't see what more she did in the movie (Or may be the whole movie was so illogical that her role made little impact).

okay, being a rajni fan myself,id like to disagree with the fact that robot would possibly not have done well without aishwarya...

Though i entirely prefer Kareena to Asin, i will say without hesitating that Asin's role in the tamil bodygaurd was better than Kareena's.

^ Lol I didn't say Robot wouldn't have been a hit without Aishwarya. I was responding to someone who said "with a cow cast opposite Rajinikanth in a film and it still being an automatic blockbuster." To which I quoted the example of Kuselan (although he wasn't the hero, he had a role lengthy enough), which was promoted entirely with Rajni yet the movie bombed. Also, there was another movie called Baba with Rajni in the lead role, even that flopped. What I mean to say is... even Rajinikanth cannot guarentee you a blockbuster. The movie has to be good to become a hit (at least for mega budget movies like Robot).

I didn't say anything about Aishwarya, although I have to say she has a pan Indian appeal... probably the only big female star who is popular all over India (including the south). A Kareena wouldn't interest the South audiences because people here barely know her. That is one of the big reasons Aishwarya was signed. The collections in the North (around 30cr) proves it she has been a profitable addition to the movie (if you compare the North collections of another Rajini blockbuster Sivaji, it hardly made 2cr... so definitely Aishwarya makes a difference in terms of collections). Plus, she has international fame which also helped in the movie becoming the highest grossing movie abroad. To say she didn't make a difference to the majority is incorrect. There were a lot of people who were waiting for Aishwarya to do a South film again and people here were really excited. Moreover, the Rajni-Aishwarya combination was highly awaited. (you won't believe me Rajni offered every film of his to Aishwarya since Padayappa (1999). And you DON'T turn Rajnikanth down, which Ash did 4-5 times, albeit cos of schedule conflicts. She got a hate base from Rajni fans because of that, but that obviously turned tables after Endhiran released). So it is juvenile to say it didn't make a difference to the majority. Of course it did. 😃

there was no question of robot not doing well, given the script tht it had and the star tht rajikanth is. Kuselan was as much his film as billu barber was SRK's...his was just an extended cameo with the "barber" taking all the focus and the footage. And a rajnikanth film where he isnt the focus dosent qualify as "his" film. His film before endhiran with shankar (Shivaji) was a blockbuster...ash was just a welcome addition...sure that addition might have made the movie get an audience in the north, but the majority didnt care if she was there in the film or not. It was always, rajini, rajini everywhere...so her role was just as bad as the one kareena had in Ra.one if not worse...coz she didnt even have to many shades except playing the barbie doll in trouble. While kareena did the same in ra.one, she atleast had a chance to exhibit some comic timing, some emotional depth and some negative shades in her character.

Secondly, to the asin and kareena comparison?? well, ive seen pretty much all of asin's films, and the only films i liked her in was the tamil ghajini and the telugu gharshana (Which was a remake of a tamil movie called Khakka khakka where jyotika in the same role was MUCH better)...Asin isnt a terrible actress...but shes not very gr8 either...all shes ever done is play flowerpot heroine roles...atleast nayantara, priyamani, anushka have stronger roles/performances like Arundhati and Paruthi veeran to their credit. Compare them to kareena and i might even agree that they are better (coz lets face it, in some ways they are)...but asin?? urm...beg to differ...
