Part 4: Cigarette Smoking is Injurious to Image

Maan was standing out of the market building near local police station and waiting for Dev(1) and Adi. He was satisfied and happy with the fight took place today. 'This time I am the winner' he thought and lit up a cigarette as if he has won the battle of Troy. Mr. D. K. Bose and burden of his gyan has gone. It was a refreshing evening for him. He smiled thinking Geet's angry and defeated face. Nothing makes him happier than it.

After a few minutes Adi and Dev(1) came and waved to him from a distance. They has shopped a lot. Maan dripped the ash of cigarette, took the last counter and dropped it. He was about to join them when he got stooped by a known voice. 'Oh no ye ladki yahan pe bhi aa gayi.' He thought. Geet was standing with Pinky and Pari putting her hands on her waist.

Geet: Geet: hei Mr sharam nahi aati aisa ghinona harkat karte hue. Chii dekhne meto acche bhale ghar ke lagte ho or lakio ko chedte ho.

Maan was shocked: Huh are you talking to me?

Geet: yes Mr. I am talking to you.

Dev(1) and Adi came by his side. Maan looked around. Crowd is gathering there circling him.

Maan: but what I have done? Maine to apko kuch nahi kaha.

Geet: ye dekho.

She showed the end of Pinky's dupatta and spoke loudly so that every body present there could hear her.

Geet: tumhare faike hue cigarette ki wajah se meri friend ki dupatte me ched ho gaya.

Maan looked at it. It was a tiny hole on Pinky's dupatta caused by the ashes of his cigarette.

Maan: I am sorry Miss but maine jaan puchke kuch nahi kiya.

Geet: bano matt I know you guys. You do this kind of filthy job and then behave oh I am so innocent. Chii.

Maan was going to give her a hursh reply but Adi stopped him. The crowd around him which included women mostly was going against him. Certain words could be heard like, ' ekdam sahi keh rahe hai ye ladki'' 'aj kal ki ladke aisehi hote hai' ' 'inn logo ko to police me dena chahiye.' ' ' eveteasing ke liye jail honi chahiye.'

Maan tried to calm himself and went to Pinky : Sorry man I really didn't want to do it. Its just an accident.

Pinky was going to say ' its ok' but Geet snatched her words: Don't you dare to come near my friend. Tum jaise ladke ko khub janti hu main. Tum jaiso ko to thappar marke thik karna chahiye.

That was it Maan lost it. He shouted: you want to slap Maan Singh Khurana huh how dare you say that.

By then Geet knew crowd is at her side. She looked at them : see how an eve teaser is giving me threat. This people are fearless now. Ye log kuch bhi kar sakte hai par hum kuch nahi keh sakte.

One elderly woman from the crowd moved forward: Nahi inn logoko sabak milni chahiye.

Everybody supported her. It was a total mess. Adi saw the thing is taking a ugly turn he went to Pinky: Please do some thing. Its getting eorse.

Poor Pinky was not getting any clue how to stop all this. Now Geet hold her hand tightly and pulled her : chall yahanse. Or unn logo ko help karne ki vare me sochna bhi mat.

Pinky gave a helpless looks to Adi and went away with Geet. Pari followed her.

Adi and Dev(1) was trying to control the situation but it was not working. Women were not convinced by them and wanted to punish Maan. Fortunately or Unfortunately two police habildar was out for patrolling, which is really rare in Kolkata. They were from the near by thana. They heard everything and couldn't get anything but the fact that everybody is accusing Maan of eve teasing. Dev and Adi tried to convince those habildars but it only added to their misery. They took Adi and Dev in their charge with Maan. Two women volunteered to file complain against them. But Maan kept quiet through all this.

Adi whispered to Dev: ek tarah se accha hi hua police hume pakar ke le aya. Public ki maar se this is much better.

Dev nodded in yes. Police inspector gave them a look.

Inspector: eve teasing haan. Chii itna ghatiya kaam app log karte kaise ho. Ap jaise logoke liye dekhiye hume sun day ko bhi kaam karna padh raha hai.

Adi whispered again to Dev: Oh no. kahi Sunday ko kaam karne ka frustration ye humpe na nikale. Isse kehte hai asmaan se gire or khajur pe atke.

Inspector: hei tum dono kya baat kar rahe ho. Ye police station hai Kolkata Coffee- House nahi. Itne ghatiya kaam karte ho aur fir bhi tum logoko sharam nahi. Hum hote to'

Maan: Iski saza kya hai?

Inspector got startled by his sudden question and baritone voice. He gulped his saliva: matlab?

Dev: Matlab what's the punishment?

Inspector: emm fine

Maan: kitna rupaye ki?

Inspector: 5000Rs, na dene se ek din ki jail bhi ho sakta hai.

Boys checked their wallet. They didn't have 5000 in cash.

Adi: ap log credit card accept karte ho?

Now Inspector got mad: what mazak samajh ke rakkha hai kya? Police station me credit card.

Dev: but we don't have cash.

Inspector: then you have to stay in police custody for to night.

Dev: what' no.. we can at least do a call.

Inspector: ok do it.. fast.

Dev : dadima ko phone laga.

Adi: par she went to Dakhineswar Mandir. Fir bhi dekhte hai may be wo abhi tak lout ayi hai.

Adi tired for some time: nuh uski cell off hai and land line bhi ring hoke ke stop ho gaya.. I guess she has not returned yet.

Dev: ok try samrat or Mayank.

Adi: they are off for a movie. Probably Zindegi Na Milegi Dobara . Ok let's try them.

Mayak's phone was off as expected. He always keep phone off in hall. After some time Samrat took Adi's call. Adi sighed in relief.

Adi: Thank God u picked up the phone. We are in police custody come soon release us.

In hall:

Samrat: what?... cant get you guys' police custody' haan haan wohi scn chal raha hai.. ab me rakhta hu.

Samrat to Mayank: Its strange. Unn logo ko kaise pata yahape police custody vala scene chal raha hai?

In Police Station:

Finally Maan said call Dev. Dev was going to call him inspector snatch the phone from his hand : bohot ho gaya tabse call kiye ja rahe ho. Ye police station hai STD booth nahi. Mujhe do main baat karta hu.

Three of them waited eagerly. It seems some one has picked the phone.

Inspector in phone: haanji apka beta.. kya naam bataya aapne.

He asked Dev.

Dev: Dev

Inspector continued: haanji Mr. dev yahape hai ' police station me' unke khilwaf eve teasing ka complain aya hai. Ap fine ke paise bharke unhe le jaiye nahi to '

It seemed he was cut by the person other side. And after some time Inspector hang the phone like to save his life and drank a glass of water in one go. Every body was amazed by his gesture.

Inspector: Baapre kya pagal aurat thi' kitna chillati hai.

Dev and Adi: Aurat?? Pisima(buaji)' oh nooo

In Krishna Vihar, 8pm

Savitri Devi at last got their call and released them. Maan didn't uttered a word since he came back. He has locked himself n his room. Mayank and Samrat were also back at home. Only Dev(2) was still in his pisima's house. They heard everything and Samrat's 1^st reaction was: why Maan has locked himself inside the room' kahi wo suicide karne ke ware me to nahi soch raha hai?

Mayan whacked him: Samrat he is our Maan ..Maan Singh Khurana will never do this' but uski ego bot hurt hui hai.. It will be difficult for him to calm down

"Calm down what calm down... I am not gonna calm down. I want revenge. Uss ladkine mujhe jo insult kiya I can't forget that... she ruined my image ... I will not spare her... uss geet se me badla leke rahuga."

Everybody knew it was not only Maan but Maan singh Khurana. No body dares to deny him.

Samrat: yah sure. This was too much. Jee kar raha hai jake ek kaske thappar lagau uss ladki ko.

Mayank: shut up. Ladkio pe hath nahi uthate hum. We have to handle it in another way.

Dev(1): what way Mayank? They can't be forgotten every time just because they are girls.

Adi: I will write a long letter against them in the news paper .. how is it??

Mayank: that's not enough. It will not hit them directly.

Samrat: wohi to main keh raha hu ' let's go and hit them directly.

Mayank rolled his eyes: samrat shut your mouth.

Everybody was getting excited while discussing but nothing was coming out. Right then an old angel entered the room I mean their Dadima came as the solution.

Dadima: All of you calm down. Why you guys are so excited. Aise to kuch nahi niklega. Josh se naho hosh se kam lo and do in a modest way.

Maan: you have a plan dadima? Tell us please.

Dadima smiled: Ok suno' but 1^st tell me tum logo me kisse rhyme likhni aati hai?

Everybody looked at Adi.

Adi: oy hello I am a writer' I can write story but can't write rhyme. My sense of rhythm is zero, I can't rhyme two words.

Savitri Devi: Its ok ' waise bhi aj kaal ki poetry me rhythm kaha hoti hai' rhythm k bina rhyme bhi chalega. Now listen.

Dadima explained her plan in a whispering voice. After that boys' excitement knew no limit as if they have already won half battle.

Maan hugged Dadima: Dadima you are a genious. You saved us today.

Guys were busy to cheer dadima when a tired horrified Dev(2) made his way to the room.

Dadima: what happened?

Dev(2): Kutte kamine .. pata nahi koun tha ' kiss janam ka badla liya mujhse.. aisa bamboo diya mujhe.

Dev(1): kyun kya hua?

In between all those happening they forgot Dev-pisima massacre.

Dev(2): arre don't ask. Me to pisima ki woha se football practice ke liye nikal gaya tha. Apna cell ghar pe chod ke gaya tha ye sochke park pe kaha rakkhunga jate waqt leke jaunga. Pata nahi kis kamino ne call karke kaha me eve teasing ke charge me andar ho gaya hu. Me jab ghar louta to pisima ne lankakand macha di. She didn't hear a single word and cried and shouted' ye din bhi dekhna baki reh gaya tha' mere apne bhai ki bete ladkio ko chedta hai jail jata hai.. bhagwan ye din sekhne se pehle me mar kyun nahi gaya' and blah blah' she even called dad. Meri bato pe yakin hi nahi kiya. Can you imagine my position? I had taken her to the ground. Everybody saw me with a yelling pisima 'she was shouting on me in public'only after every body there said that I was there only she was convinced. Pata nahi koun mere sath ye ganda mazak kiya' agar pata chale na I will kill him then only I will be happy.

Everybody looked at each other and decided they will say everything in detail but after the dinner and hoped they had a yammy dinner tonight.

Geet has hurt Maan's ego very badly...but what is Daadima's plan...
Dev-2 has to suffer a lot because of phone call...now how will he react when he will come to know that his friends are culprits...
