He looked at her pictures that he had saved on his desktop, from wad her mother had sent via mail and smiled to himself. She has changed so much since school Shyam thought to himself as he looked at Khushi, who he remembered as the naughty girl with two pig tails. She had been such a tom boy, a total bully !!!
He remembered how she would sometimes be standing outside the principals office along with a bunch of boys for either throwing rockets in class ... or for slipping an experiment frog into a guy's shirt making him leap !!!
He had been the head boy of the school, when he had gotten a chance to interact with her closely during the sports day function! She had won a couple of races for their house and she had been as fast as a lightening with it came to shot put, relay and long jump !! She had once slapped a guy hard because he had commented on the length of her shorts during one of the competitions... As he recollected all this, he smiled even more, since the girl in the pictures was someone totally opposite ... the pictures were perhaps taken at a wedding, and she had been dressed in a light grey lehenga and her hair had been open ...!! she had sported a stylish silver nose ring, and her wrist had been empty !!!
Heere ke kangan, Khushi ko main doonga! she is going to be my wife .. !!
The mention of this made him blush as he looked at himself in the mirror ... Shyam had become a successful Engineer, and had even done an MBA from a well known University abroad. Since he had been working there, for a few years now, his parents were keen on getting him married. They had seen Khushi at a wedding and had wanted her to be their daughter-in-law ever since! Being family friends just expedited the process...!!!
One week more Khushi!! Main tumse ab aake hi miloonga ...
Thought Sham to himself as he drove off to play a game of squash with his club buddies.
India...
She woke up early in the morning with a smile on her face .. She knew her mother had unknowingly given her answers to all her problems and she knew what she had to do... she got ready quickly, and rushed outta her room, to meet Arnav .. she had to talk to him... she had to tell him about the way she felt, after all, he was the only one who could help her out now ...
As she was about to leave, her mother asked her ... "kahan ja rahi hai Khushi ... ruk ja... aaj se teri cooking classes shuru ..."
Kh: Baad main ma... waise bhi i hate cooking ... aur mujhe aaj Arnav se milna hai .. its urgent .. ( she almost sounded anxious as she said this and sped outta the house) ...
Gar: iss ladki ka yoon, baar baar jaake Arnav se milna ... shayad ab hume thoda sochna padega ... pata nahi .. wo log kya sochenge ...
Payal: Par amma, Arnav toh apne ghar ke bete jaisa hai ...
Gar: Haan Payal, lekin, tu nahi jaanti ... shaadi ke maamle main thoda chaukanna rehna padta hai .. aur main nahi chahti ke iss wajah se, itna accha rishta humare haath se nikal jaaye ...
shashi nodded in agreement though he continued to read the paper ...
Garima continued "yeh jhalli toh kuch samajhne se rahi ... mujhe Arnav se hi baat karni padegi ... wo hi iss ladki ko samjhayega .. aur fir, wo bhi toh jaanta hai ... ke Khushi ke zindagi ka sawal hai ... "
Payal had always known Arnav had loved Khushi though he had never mentioned it ... It was more like a silent understanding Payal and Arnav shared with respect to Akash and Khushi .. though they never spoke about it ...
Khushi drove to Arnav's house on her scooty, all happy and excited and parked her scooty outside his house ... But as she got down, she suddenly started feeling uncomfortable about the feelings inside her heart ...
She took a deep breath ... "stop acting silly" she told herself ... its not like he is going to eat you up ... big deal ... you just have to tell him what you feel ... and it will all be fine ... he will understand .. aur fir kya pata ... he will find a solution to my problem ... par kya yeh problem hai ? she thought to herself ...
Suddenly, she was hit by a volley of questions in her head ... when her mother had told her everything, all she could picture was Arnav, and she also knew how wad she felt for all this while may have been love ... but now .. the biggest question plagued her mind ... did he love her too ? what if he would laugh at her ? what if he would stop talking to her ? What if he loved someone else ? did he? nahi .. aisa toh nahi ho sakta ... i know everything about everyone in Arnav's life ... agar uske life main koi hoti toh woh mere aur Akash ke saath itna time spend nahi karta ... idiot hai woh .. she thought to herself ... but something chained her feet and restricted her moving forward .. her racing heart didnt help her either !!!!
But she did manage to walk forward... she could see Arnav from a distance, talking the phone to someone ...she wiped the sweat off her palms as she made way into the house ... The man had just looked so different today ... she thought, she didnt know this guy at all .. had he been her childhood friend, the guy with whom she had shared all her worries and issues .. small or big? why was it so hard suddenly ... as she approached the door, without ringing it lest he would come to the door, which she didnt want, Khushi simply stepped in ... talking small steps as she walked towards the sofa where he had been sitting and reading the paper ...
Arnav hung up on a phone call ... "jee aunty ... main samajh raha hoon ... aap bilkul chinta mat karna ... main sab sambhaal loonga na ..."
Khushi hid behind the wall, looking at the man ... wondering at that moment if all that she had been feeling over the last few hours had been true .. did she love him at all ? wasnt he her friend? had she been hasty ? being in love was so not cool ... shouldnt it have made her happy? instead it had turned her all sad and feel odd ... it had taken her friend away from her ... then she looked at him ... and her heart and head played havoc with her again!! yes she did feel differently about the same Arnav .. she wanted to go to him and talk to him but something stopped her .. something told her ... she cant .. she may not be able to ...!! And before she could let herself go through this anymore ... she turned around and ran for her life ...
No sooner does she leave, Arnav suddenly feels the presence of someone around him ... something familiar fills the air .. a thought that had always brought a smile on his face this time brings in slight tears which he stops since he cant cry being a man! He knew this feeling really well ... he always felt this way when Khushi was around .. Had she come ? Amma had told him, she had left for his place ... may be she was on her way ... But Arnav hadnt forgotten the warnings and the signs he had received in the last few days ... his brother had asked him to move away from Khushi's life and now even Amma had told him how Khushi needed to be careful with the way she moved around people ... Arnav knew ... the time had come .. for this friendship to take a back seat so that another important relationship could take shape in Khushi's life ... he knew that his decision to move away from Khushi was the right thing to do ... what would she do, may be crib for a while, cry a little because they were so attached to one another, and then perhaps get on with life ... after all, friends are a part of your life ... they cant be the reason for your living ...!! and he knew it .. he felt sad, that in all these years he could not make Khushi realise he had always felt more than friendship for her, but never had the guts to own it up .. and had perhaps also tried his best to hide it so that she would not make fun of him !!! But why why why didnt she realise that he hadnt had a girlfriend in all these years, because Khushi had already taken a place in his entire heart ... he loved it when she felt possessive about him and threw other girls away ! He wanted to be the man who always took care of her and feel he owned her though she claimed she could take care of herself and she just needed him as a support sytem to fall back on !!! He knew her inside out ... but he realised, that may not be enough for them to be life partners ... It was a lost cause ...!! he had lost Khushi forever ...!! It would now be better, if he moved out of her immediate space as well, so that she could get to lead a life that was new and fresh !!!

As he finished playing the match and losing it, his friend Ritwik asked him ... "man, u looked distracted today ... kya baat hai ... itni pasand aayi hai kya tumhe ladki ...mujhe bhi bata ... koun hai woh ..."

"what the ..." said his friend as he almost spat water from hi mouth ... "agar tujhe ladke se hi shaadi karni thi toh India tak jaane ki kya zaroorat thi ..."
Shyam: very funny !!!! wo ab badal gayi hai ...!!! aur waise bhi ... i have been following what she has been upto !! and i think she would be a perfect wife!!
Rit: haan haan !! bas pehle se confirm karva le ... aaj bhi woh choo choo uske aas paas na ghoomta ho ... pata chala ... Khushi se Shaadi ki ... aur Arnav tujhe free main saath aa jayega .. man they were inseparable ...!! she had been so protective about him in school, we almost thought she would marry him to take care of him, all his life ...
Shyam: Relax Twix !! We all grow up .. aur time ke saath sab kuch badal jaata hai .. aur fir, agar wo dono dost hai, toh usme kya burayi hai .. you cant marry someone you mother and pet ...!! life partner ki baat hi kuch aur hoti hai .. aur maine toh soch liya hai .. Shaadi main Khushi Gupta se hi karoonga ...

Khushi ran back into her home, straight into her sister's room locking the door behind her. She had been panting .. gasping for breath ... nervous ... yet blushing pink in her face ...!!!
Payal looked at her sister confused .. "kya hua Khushi ...!! tu itni jaldi main kyun hai ..."
Khu: GeeIJoe, I am in love !!! help me .. mujhey yeh shaadi nahi karni ...
Payal: kya??? kissey , koun hai woh, tumne Arnav ko bataya yeh ? kya kaha usne ...
Khu: no idiot!! usey main bata nahi sakti ...
Payal: Kyun ...
Khu: kyunki ... main ussi se pyar karti hoon idiot !!!
Payal looked at Khushi shocked with her mouth wide open !!!
