In 2005, the top seven entertainment stars, Amitabh Bachan, Shahrukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Preity Zinta, Aishwarya Rai, Smriti 'Tulsi' Irani, and the increasingly popular comedy star, Paresh Rawal endorse a whopping 111 brands between themselves, featuring in 202 creative executions for 67 advertisers.
Take Shahrukh Khan for instance. According to Adex, the total number of commercial brands endorsed by king Khan in 2005 was 21, which is a 62 % jump compared to the 13 brands endorsed in 2004. In Q1 '06, the number of brands has risen to 16 — already touching 76% of the figure in 2005.
The total number of commercials featuring Khan in 2005 rose by 43% at 53,527 spots versus 37,436 in 2004. It's a clamour for Khan in spite of his steep price.
It's the same story for sportsmen too. The number of brands endorsed by the top 11 sports people in India in 2005, according to Adex India was 89, from 70 advertisers.
Just in first three months of 2006, the Top 11 endorsed 44 brands for 40 advertisers, and Sachin tops by endorsing 11 brands from eight advertisers.
