Karunya has probably had more experience singing Hindi songs than Hema. In one article, Hema mentioned that 2 months before the contest, he worked with his cousin to improve his diction (I am assuming that was Karunya)

Good point ab_srgmp, but Hema mentioned that he learned from his uncle & his sister Bindu just 2 months before the competition..He improved totally after he entered into the contest..
That's really impressive he learned hindi in just two months..Hemu rocks👏👏👏

parineetha ji, Completely agree with your points.

ranig thanks for the article.

As parineetha ji rightly said,Hemu's role models clearly show that he was more into south indian music and his role models were SPB and Hariharan. Also, Karunya wanted to take part in II 2. Hemu on the other hand mentioned in an interview that he went to Delhi for singing at some concert and the music director of SRGMP asked him to take part in the challenge. If you see his first episode, the song he sang in the auditions was Albela Saajan which doesnt have much of words as much as alaap it has showing his command over swar and sur and at the end of the day, thats what matters. Diction is an important part but its something that can be worked on especially at his age.

It doesnt seem completely impossible that he learnt his Hindi in a few months. Listen to his language in the beginning of the show to what it was in the end, there was a clear change. If this change can come in about 6 months, its not completely impossible. As Aruna ji said, for some one who has good command over their mother tongue, its not that hard to pick up any other language. The accent will be a problem which goes if you talk more in that language. Karunya mentioned in an interview that he had Hindi speaking friends which clearly shows.

What I dont get it is, why are Karu and Hemu expected to be the same? Both have their share of strenghts and weaknesses but its a known fact that they both are a class apart and 👏 👏 to them and their parents for supporting them to nurture this talent.

Ur welcome to all those who appreciated the article. I liked it too.

Look at Paresh...He barely knew Hindi and he sang Hindi songs so well.

Why would Hemu not be able to learn it and sing it in such a short time.

Sure, I'm sure he understood it, etc, but I believe that he learned it during that time.

I still think it's super impressive and I've grown a greater respect for his singing now that I know he did not know the language.

No it can be true. It is not that he is not familiar with HIndi. But even if you can speak HIndi it is so different to actually sing songs. It is like asking Indians sing English songs. We all speak good English, does not neccesarily mean we can sing well. It is the accent that he is talking about. things like main, hai etc need to be worked on.
