Will Shahid bounce back after 'Mausam' debacle?
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Monday, October 03, 2011]
The writing was clear on the wall for 'Mausam' even before the opening day came to a close. Leave aside the all around average to below average to poor reviews that the film fetched, 'Mausam' was shown a red signal by audience themselves, something that proved to be it's death kneel. Results were there to be seen when after a barely average opening weekend, the film crashed big time over the weekdays, hence resulting in a mere 29 crores total.

The film's prospects have been helped further, what with 'Force' taking a good opening (more about that later) and 'Saheb Biwi aur Gangster' seeing good appreciation coming it's way. With it's shows being considerably reduced in the second week, 'Mausam' would barely complete it's second week before waving a final goodbye. A sad state for a film that took two years to be made but would now barely survive for a mere two weeks in theatres.

While it is clear that the film would breathe its last before hitting the 35 crores mark, 'Mausam' is particularly disappointing for Shahid Kapoor who played a major gamble by concentrating entirely on this film. He is more or less in a similar position as Hrithik Roshan was when he had a huge gap between his 'Jodhaa Akbar' and 'Kites' and had to face similar disappointment.

Though this is definitely a setback for Shahid, it can be rest assured that he would bounce back in a big way since he has been around for close to a decade in the industry and knows the rules of the game. Expect him to sign a flurry of films here and do a few conventional flicks to bring him back into reckoning all over again.

The other release of the week, 'Speedy Singhs', has proven to be a mighty disappointment at the box office with a mere 3.5 crores coming in. This dubbed film was released in India prior to its international release (it's target audience) in English. While it is yet to be seen how the film fares overseas, at least in Bollywood there isn't any 'speed' that this Vinay Virmani film could manage. In it's second week, the film is hardly running in any theatres and is on it's way out.

Haven't watched Mausam but from what I heard people appreciated and liked Shahid in the movie. If he's done a good job then he should last as so many stars in the past have had strings of flops but they still last and once they get a hit there back in the biz as normal. Hasn't every star had a big flop, it depends on what projects he takes next in order to bounce back up.
What do you guys think? People who watched Mausam how was Shahid's acting?

shahid acted so well in the first half. he acted very robot like in the sec. half, not showing enough emotion

i feel bad for the makers of this movie b/c so much time went it to. it would have done better if the edited it more.

Nah...
The Khans are still ruling the roost and still occupy the top three slots... The youngistan crowd of Ranbir, Imran and Ranveer are catching up and have started to make a mark ... Shahid and couple others are stuck in the naa idhar ka naa udhar ka phase... They will stil be around doing mediocre stuff but I dont see them hitting the top spots...

Unless Shahid picks a good movie.. I highly doubt it! But the film industry is unpredictable. A few years back Salman had quite a few flops, but he did rise again. Of course it is another story that his movies no longer appeal to some of us, but they work for the masses.

He might.
But I think this whole "vying for the top slot" is highly overrated and kinda ridiculous. I mean... the film industry shouldnt be a competition to see who can bring in the most numbers or ATTBBs (sadly, I think it has become that way, hence the crap state of films in today's time, with all the A listers running around in a pointless rat race, doing whatever they can to generate numbers)
The industry should encourage a NUMBER of GOOD ACTORS so that audiences get a mix, rather than one top dog.
The Khans are the top earners, but what others can do is carve their own identity. A bit like Saif, Abhay Deol, and Emran Hashmi, who are known for being really good actors and doing a bit of offbeat films and commercial films at the same time.

The film would probably have earned a bit more money if they had been able to go with their original release date, as that would have given them 2 weeks before Force and SBAG.

As for Shahid, maybe he should follow the Salman Formula now (it has worked well for John). Or stick to low-budget films for a while.

Shahid..as an actor only gained from Mausam...he excelled and transitioned beautifully through his 4 phases in the movie...Pankaj showcased Shahid as a complete actor...😳

Shahid is here for a long haul..has at least another 15 years to go...his talent is there for all to see...and sooner or later he will hit the BIG league...want him there in the 100 + crores list... Inshallah...😊

Mausam flopped so what? Shahid's acting was great in the movie. So nothing will be affected on him. If someone has to face problem for it, then it should be Sonam. She should give more concentration on acting and script choosing. All her films are flop except IHLS.

I have already told in another thread that failure is the pillar to success. It is not end for Shahid, actors in Bollywood can make themselves superstar even after 40+. So why should I worry?
