If you haven't, read the article I posted. It's a valid piece of opinion I'd say. When Umbridge was lying in the hospital wing, it was stated that though she wasn't physically injured, it was apparent that something terrible had happened to her. Going by the centaur myth, I don't think it would be impossible if she was (were?) raped. Though there ought to be scratches and bruises if she was (were?) raped. But I can't think of anything else that could possibly silence a woman like her, which doesn't involve physical violence.

Maybe the centaurs were merely planning to rough her up a little and lock her up for trial in centaur court. It could be a confundus charm, or a disorienting or frightening charm of similar nature. Maybe it could be a backfired spell like what happened to Lockhart.

Maybe it is her own racism and fears playing out like how some white women displayed extreme paranoia about black men and often falsely accused them of rape. Perhaps Umbridge prejudicially viewed centaurs as rapists and thats what she manifested when they took her. She never comes off as a mentally stable woman does she?

Centaurs representing animal behavior and sex? Ludicrous 😆
Beware of Sagittarians 😆
Yes any story can be twisted beyond recognition unfortunately.

Oh yeah the Sagittarians. Their sign is the archer, a centaur. Funny, I always thought the Scorpions were the ones with the highest sex drive, followed by the Virgins (which I find ironic). 😆

Sagittarians are dreamers with heads in the clouds, love philosophy and will sacrifice themselves for their lover. They are not cruel I think.
Scorpions are the Richard Burton types and are serious lovers. Somehow they are painted as dark and demanding.
Lady Gaga is interesting with a Scorpio influence on the Moon. She is a fire sign too.
Lady Gaga is a straightforward Aries with an intense and gutsy Scorpio Moon. Her Mercury is in Pisces, her Venus is in Aries, and her Mars in Capricorn is practical and business-minded.
I prefer to look at the Hindu Astrology Charts and they can be fun.

Here is another link to a blog discussing "What happened to Umbridge" - http://www.patheos.com/community/paganportal/2011/09/24/what-really-happened-to-dolores-umbridge-and-why-it-matters/

The discussions in the comments add various interpretations and perspectives.

Although I don't think Umbridge was raped, I do interpret that Ariana Dumbledore was raped or at least molested by muggles. I don't see any other way what else would mentally destroy her so much. And I don't see anyone in the otherwise reasonable Dumbledore family killing people for a lesser mistake.

I agree. There is no way Rowling would do something like that. In harry potter characters are either good or evil. Cenatures were clearly good .
Harry potter was written for children , maybe thats why there is no sex scene in the series. Thats why character were simpler and less complicated.

The centaurs were "clearly good"? Baring Firenze, almost all of them were prejudiced, which is something that is heavily looked down upon in Harry Potter. There are more complexities in most characters in Harry Potter than there are in most best-selling popular fictions out there that the new populi is into.

Well, I wouldn't clearly categorize HP as "a children's book". 😊Provided the fact that there are numerous instances where the distinction-line between the absolute categories of "Good" or "Evil" have been blurred, as in the case of the classic Fall Guy Snape. Also, the heavy Dark theme of the last book raises question's on it being a children's book. IMHO, the complex ideological struggles and psychological maturity doesn't quite classify it as what is meant by the term "For Children".

Both wizards and centaures are prejudiced against each other. wizards think centaures as their inferior. Only Dumbledore treat them with respect. Hagrid (half giant , looked down by wizards) is friends with them also. So when umbridge attacked them (despite hermoine warining) they defended themselves. They don't mingle with wizards ,no want to share their knowledge with them. Ok , I admit they are not clearly good, but they are not evil also. And I did mention that they fighted along with wizards in the final war?

Harry potter is written for children. Ofcourse last three book were going to have more mature theme compared to first four book. As harry get older his fans get older too.

Snape and Dumbledore had lot of potential , but they failed to reach their potential. Both of them have troubled past and lost their loved ones, not something new. More explanation need to be there . why do snape loves lily? So he hate harry because he see james in harry. why would snape do that? Dumbledore is typical mentor type character which is present in most of the fantasy books. In the final book we got backstory of which is very interesting. I wish there was more of it.

Voldemort is evil because well, somebody need to be evil . again more explanation needed. Death eaters and slytherins are all similar (except snape) . all are coward, dimwitted ,evil. Come on all cann't be same.

Darco could have been amazing character .struggle he is in sixth book (which isn't shown that much) could have been turned into redemption arc, which would have been amazing.

My only problem with hermoine and ron is that there isn't a single chapter from their point of view. Most of the other character are either minor character or doesn't really matter in the storyline.

I understand that series is about harry , but other characters needed to be considered as well. I don't hate harry , in fact I enjoyed it. Lot of adults enjoy chidren's books. Nothing wrong here . but that doesn't change the fact harry was written for children.maybe i was expecting to much from harry potter, seeing all the hype for potter.
