The day was all bright and everyone in the market was busy doing their daily deeds. The city bus came and slipped on the mud road and finally stopped. A girl in long peppy colored skirt got down and someone from inside handed her the bag.
Arpitha (with a sweet smile) ' "Thank you."
Arpitha smiled and waved as the bus drove away. She breathes a lung full of air and felt the atmosphere.
Arpitha ' "I am home, after 12 long years. I am back my dear lovely home. Here I come."
Arpitha walked the streets in great joy and happiness. While she walked, she remembered all her childhood memories. All the fun and frolic she had lived all her childhood. Arpitha finally reached her favorite spot of lallanpur; Her Uncle's sweet shop.
She tip- toed to the counter where her uncle was counting the money and adjusting it in the drawers. She blinded him with her tender hands and smiled.
Uncle Kranti lal (eagerly) ' "who is this?"
Arpitha ' "guess"
Uncle Kranti lal ' "I have become an old man child. I don't have a good memory anymore. Please reveal yourself."
Arpitha (removing her hands from his eyes) ' "Oh god, you don't even remember your choti (means small in Hindi)"
Uncle Kranti lal ' "Choti'When did you come? How are you my child?"
Arpitha ' "fine uncle."
Uncle Kranti lal ' "after you mom and dad left this world, we were all worried about you. But you proved you are a tough thing. Dear, I never wished to send you away from here."
Arpitha ' "I know uncle. I know you all love me so much. But I also need to move on in life. Leave that all now. I heard you were in some troubles regarding the business."
Uncle Kranti lal ' "now everything is alright with the grace of AWDESH SING TAKKUR *lo a Gaya hamara hero*. He helped me out from the local goons who were after the shop. He is a true man dear. All the people of Lallanpur treat him as a god. To all the gangsters he is a nightmare. Arpitha, will you listen to your uncle? "
Arpitha ' "you just order uncle."
Uncle Kranti lal ' "Awdesh is a very nice guy. Even he lost his parents in the same way as you did, so he took up this profession of helping people. I strongly wish if you could marry him. After all it's your aunt and me who have to get you married to some good person. And Awdesh is the right guy in my opinion. "
Arpitha already had his picture as described by her uncle. She was impressed. She always dreamt to live life to the fullest. After the death of her mom and dad in some unexpected firing among some goons, she left the place and lived with her aunt. Now she wanted to come back to her place for once and all as she had decided to leave to London and settle there forever.
Arpitha promised to come back to her uncle and left the shop without any further talk on the proposal laid by her uncle. All the way she thought of the man her uncle was speaking of. While arpitha was lost in her thought, she found a crowd watching something. She paced down to the spot and could hear a girl cry. She pushed herself through the crowd and was shocked to see a gang of goons had encircled a girl and were trying to get hold of her. Arpitha moved to the rescue of the girl and stood in-between the girl and the goons.
Arpitha ' "what the hell are you doing?"
One of the goons ' "who are you? never seen you around. Ok guys lets show her a demo on what we want to do? "
The goons forwarded slowly in her direction while arpitha moved back covering the girl behind her. She started sweating. She suddenly remembered god. And she paused, so did the goons.
Goon (laughing) '"what happened? Afraid?"
Arpitha (bold) ' "yup' afraid on what will happen to you guys, when HE comes to know that his girlfriend is mistreated."
The goons pause and think for a while.
One of the goons ' "who is that hero. Whoever it is we aren't afraid of any. Darling we came for one and in jackpot we have you too."
While this conversation was going on, a couple of jeeps came and a bunch of people got down from them. Among them all one man shone like a star. In red kurtha and blue jeans, he resembled a lion ready to attack his prey.
They were entering the crowd when arpitha told the goons something that shook the ground under them.
The people entered with their leader in front of them when arpitha repeated her word.
Arpitha ' "Yes!!! I am the girl friend of AWDESH SINGH TAKKUR. Come on come and try harming me, you will be torn into pieces."
The man stood stunned. He removed his goggles and started at the girl talking. All that she spoke was muted to him. He was lost in her. And the words she spoke rang a thousand times in his ears. The goons following him were also surprised and tried to stop arpitha, but their leader didn't let him do that. He ordered them silently to be one among the crowd. Arpitha turned to his side and tried exiting from the crowd. He was in front of her and arpitha was looking at him in a questioned expression.
Arpitha ' "didn't you hear, I am Awdesh Singh takur's Girl friend? Now would you please make way for us or shall I call him"
The man smiled away and gave her the way, while arpitha left the crowd holding the girl securely in her arms. HE watched her as she moved away and watched her till she was lost in the crowd.
Chulbul ' "Bhayaji, why did you stop us. That girl was speaking all rubbish and spoiling your image."
Awdesh ' "she did nothing wrong. Whatever she did was right, to save a person in need. Its o.k. Go and get hold of those morons who tried to tease that girl. Go"
While his goons were away to accomplish the work assigned by their leader, Awdesh move in the crowd searching for the girl. After searching the crowd in failure, he finally settled near his jeep when he heard someone consoling. He turned around and saw the very same girl trying to console the one in tears.
Arpitha ' "it's alright now. You are safe. They won't come back."
The girl (shivering) ' "thank you .thank you so much."
Arpitha ' "don't be afraid I am with you. Where is your house? I'll drop you. Come let's go."
Arpitha tried supporting the girl but she was completely frightened and couldn't even walk properly.
Awdesh ' "Let me help you, let me drop you at our place."
Arpitha looked at him suspiciously. The girl was happy to see him. Awdesh understood arpitha's expression.
Awdesh ' "Don't worry; I know you are the Girl Friend of Awdesh Singh Takhur."
Arpitha shook her head in agreement for his help. The girl in tears understood the scene completely. She silently climbed into the jeep with both of them. While Awdesh drove the jeep, arpitha sat in the second seat with the girl lying in her lap sleeping. Awdesh drove silently but would look at arpitha now and then through the mirror. Finally reaching the girls home, they drop her safely. Arpitha escorts her inside the house and bids a good bye to the family who has taken her as their deity already.
Driving back to arpitha's house, Awdesh would watch her with a smile. Arpitha felt uncomfortable. She smiled gently and would continue looking out from the window glass.
Awdesh (breaking the silence) ' "so, from when do you know him?"
Arpitha ' "who?"
Awdesh ' "Awdesh Singh takhur."
Arpitha was not sure on why he is going into details. She paid least attention to his question. Awdesh still continued.
Awdesh ' "do you know what type of guy he is? What he does?"
Arpitha faced off from him and kept her silence.
Awdesh (whispers) ' "Do you know his face at least"
Arpitha gets active to his last question. She is tensed from inside on travelling with a stranger in the first place and then he doubts whether she actually knows of who she claims to be his boyfriend.
Arpitha ' "yes I do. What a silly question?"
Awdesh is enjoying the moment. He knows she is faking. But still he is letting her do so.
Awdesh ' "oh. That's great. And just out of curiosity does he praise you anytime."
Arpitha looks at him in surprise. Arpitha thinks to herself on why is he so curios about her LOVE. Does he know him? Does he know that she is lying? Whatever, it is. She had lied so he has to cover it up. At least, till she reaches a safer place.
Arpitha ' "yes he does."
Awdesh ' "Like"
Arpitha is growing furious now. Why is it he wants to know all the details? She can't even be mad at him. This can cost her. She calmed down and continued her story of LOVE. But what should she say? How can anyone self praise. She remembered one of the love letters she got in college. Trying to remember hard arpitha grouped all that she could.
Arpitha ' "Well, he says that I have a sweet smile, beautiful eyes, and above all He loves my hair."
Awdesh ' "He is lying"
Arpitha was puzzled on his contradiction.
Arpitha ' "So, You mean to say my smile isn't good. Aren't my eyes beautiful? Look here into my eyes and tell me."
Awdesh smiled and started looking into her eyes and in no time was lost in them. Arpitha too was experiencing the same. She could hear her heart speaking to those small black eyes perfectly fitted onto his face. Lost in each other's presence, Awdesh forgot that he was driving. Accidentally the vehicle climbed a stone and it skidded down along the road side. Awdesh couldn't handle the steering. The vehicle paced faster and faster running over the small upcoming plants and shrubs. Arpitha shouted while Awdesh still tried to control the steering. And finally the vehicle did stop.
Arpitha slowly opened her eyes and saw that there was water in front of the vehicle. She quickly examined around. It was dense forest. They have come a long way. Arpitha was looking around for Awdesh when she found her hair was all messed up. She was looking like some maniac who has run away from the asylum. Arpitha quickly managed her hair and looked around for him.
She got down and looked around. He was nowhere to be found. She was a brave girl, but the surroundings frightened her a bit. The husky noises made by the forest made her panic a bit. And added to this, Awdesh was out of her sight.
Arpitha (Thinking to herself) ' " Where the hell am I? And where is this man. Where did he vanish? "
Awdesh '"What are you searching for?"
Arpitha turned around and her happiness was distinctly clear on her lips. She quickly moved to his side and was happy to find him back again.
Awdesh ' "see. I told you. He was lying"
Arpitha ' "Not again"
