I think once they realise they actually have on huge thing in common which is no blood parents, then they can share pain and sorrow with each other. Protective as in he'd make her his responsibility, like how he treats Anjali. Unknowingly he won't let anyone but himself hurt her. He'll care for her and then suddenly realises he loves her. If that makes sense?

Arnav lost his parents and lived under the shade of his sister's love

But he always missed his parents

While khushi got a lovely home, a father , mother and a sister who loves her a lot, so she never missed her real parents.
