Actor Ram Kapoor talks of his relationship with Balaji, return to television and growing popularity

You were quite popular on television. Why did you move away from the medium?
Well, that's because I started getting a lot of film offers, which demanded travelling. So I could not work on television and films simultaneously. So, I had to give the small screen a pass for a while. But then I had not thought that the gap would be a three-year long one.
How are you enjoying your comeback?
I am having a blast. Luckily, I have always got good roles on television; be it in Mansha, Heena, Kabhi Aayee Na Judai or Awaaz. Even in Kasamh Se, I am enjoying playing Jay Walia.
You recently got mobbed at a restaurant…
Yes, I was dining when a group of girls came up to me and advised me to be good to (my onscreen wife) Bani. It's startling to see how seriously the audience takes our characters! Then there was another occasion when I was mobbed while shopping for underwear! It was so embarrassing… I was holding underwear boxes and the girls (who mobbed me) wouldn't let me be by myself.
Does all this adulation bother you?
Not at all. An actor is nobody without his fans. They are like watchdogs in his life and their feedback is very important.
While you were away, you did about four films. Any more films coming up?
Not at the moment. My hands are full with Kasamh Se. But yes, for a good role I can always adjust my schedule.
Why did you leave Ghar Ek Mandir? Apparently it wasn't such an amicable parting
When I was doing Ghar Ek Mandir, I got film offers. And like I said, I had to travel. So I had to leave the show. But there was no bad blood between the production house (Balaji Telefilms) and me.
But you were called unprofessional…
People have always written what they wanted to. But you have to understand that we didn't have any problems. Because if there were issues with Balaji, I would not have got the role of Jay Walia from the same production house years later.
You will soon be a father…
Yeah. I am so excited and so nervous. I know it means a lot of responsibility but the baby will be a great stress buster too. I am sure I will be a good father.
