In Diya Aur Baati Hum, destiny seems to be playing a game with Suraj and Sandhya. Both are facing a dilemma and handling their families, while trying to find a solution to their current problems.

As Sandhya's brother Ankur prepares to realise his dream of going to the US, he also wants to fulfill his duty and responsibility towards his sister, Sandhya, by getting her married. But when she refused, he tried all tricks to convince her – blame, guilt and blackmail. Satisfied that Sandhya will toe the line, Ankur will now go to meet a prospective groom, but he will be shocked to see Suraj.

A STAR Plus.in source elaborates, "As the matchmaker Kisna wants Suraj and Sandhya to marry, she will take Ankur to meet Suraj's family. Unaware Ankur will buy sweets from Suraj's shop and land at his house to talk about the marriage proposal. When Suraj comes in, Ankur will be shocked to see the same halwai as the groom."

In a dilemma Ankur explains, "I am ambitious and want to move forward in life. Now that my company is sending me to the US, why shouldn't I go? It is unfortunate that my parents passed away but I realize I have a duty towards my sister. I can't let her live all alone in a city. Getting her married is the best option. It is for the greater good. I realise her dream to be an IPS officer will be crushed but all girls marry and this was our parent's dream too, so why ruin my future over it. I have given her an ultimatum and I think she will relent. However, when visited the prospective groom's house, I got a culture shock as both our lifestyles are complete opposite. They seem like a conservative family as opposed to our modern one. But when I saw the groom, who is a halwai, I am beginning to have second thoughts. Am I being hasty? This is a huge predicament."

Suraj too has a lot on his mind. "The bride running away from the marriage mandap did hurt me a bit but I am troubled about Bhabhoo's 15-day challenge to get me married. I don't want her to be humiliated or hurt because of me. I am scared for her. When the girl I was to marry ran away, Bhabhoo fainted and I worry that if this challenge is not met, how will she take it? I don't want to lose her over anything. I am happy as I am. I don't have any say or interference in the type of girl chosen for me. As long as she keeps Bhabhoo happy, I will be happy. I think a pure hearted person is daring and I also believe that whatever happens, happens for the best. God must have planned something better and bigger for me in the future. I can handle anything destiny throws at me, but I don't want Bhabhoo to be hurt even a little bit. I am in a quandary."

Sandhya is feeling betrayed by her brother and his blackmail has put her in a dilemma. "I was relying on my brother to fulfill my dreams but he has put me in a tough spot. Not only is he hell bent on marrying me against my wishes so that his duty is over, but when I refused he is emotionally blackmailing me. I couldn't believe that he said he would leave my bhabhi in India with me, as he knows very well I fought with everyone to ensure she went with him. Moreover, I just found out that she is pregnant. I don't want her to suffer because of me. I don't want that on my conscience. My brother is calling me selfish and has told me to okay the proposal coming tomorrow. What do I do? I can't believe this is happening to me."
